EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. -- A teacher in Eagle County was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust with a pattern of sexual abuse.
Lauren Redfern, 25, is a physical education teacher at Basalt High School.
Redfern is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old male student over a duration of 4 months, deputies said.
She is being held without bond until she makes her first appearance before a judge.

I agree-17 is NOT a “child”-what is the age of consent in Colorado?
That said, a teacher having sex with a student should still be worthy of dismissal-I’ve worked for businesses that forbade sex between supervisors and those they supervised, and I agree with that.

If there’s a specific law against a teacher having sex with a student, then she’s certainly violated it and should be punished, but jail for sex with a 17 year old?
She should lose her teaching license, but no jail time. And certainly NO charges that would lead her to having to register as a sex offender.

I would have gladly volunteered to be a “victim of a sexual assault” by a 25 year old teacher at that age.
Some one I am very close to had a sexual relationship at age 17 with a young new teacher. They will be married 30 years next month.

I agree. That is a mighty square jaw for a female. Could be a product of a sex change operation. Ya havta be careful this day and time.
They were there. This has never been that uncommon. Once upon a time a high school male scoring some hot female teacher would have been a badge of honor and something to tell friends about later in life. That didn't make it right, only that 16-17 year old boys are not children and aren't generally forced into sex by attractive teachers. Nowadays stories like these are just way overdone. Again, not saying it's right. If a woman teacher is doing this and gets caught she should be dismissed. It's just that I seriously doubt most/any 16-17 year old boy is actually mentally scarred from this sort of thing.

I never had a decent looking female teacher in elementary, high school or college.
I would hit that like a 17 year old from her gym class.
Correct, however the teacher committed a crime because she was in a position of authority over the student in a public institution, using authority to coerce sex, sexual assault, not statutory rape.
