I need to keep a pistol by the door.
My wife makes it a point not to open the door until I’m armed and in position.
By the door is good. In your hand is probably a little better.
Best to you my friend.
About 2 months ago I stashed a loaded pistol in the garage within 3 seconds’ distance of exiting the car....follow-homes seem to be getting a little trendy.
“I need to keep a pistol by the door.”
Pfft. Frickin’ bolt a slap-grab box to the inside of the door it with a locked/loaded .45 in it. If there are no kids in the house, skip the box, and just mount a fully occupied holster on the door. On the wall, BEHIND the door (out of reach of anyone outside), mount a shotgun rack and keep it ready to rock ‘n’ roll.

The only vaccination against regret is preparedness.
Wear one. There's small 7-shot pocket .380s out now that become so comfortable with an inside-the-pants holster that you don't even know it is there. Use frangibles ot hollow points.
A nasty surprise for anyone who attempts to barge in.
I''m retired and lounge around in sweat suits all day with one in my waist. Take it with me when I do my afternoon walk. Top shirt hangs over the gun and nobody is the wiser, even though I don't have to conceal. This is an open-carry state, but why tip off the bad guy?
