LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Military helicopters buzzed through Los Angeles on Friday, catching the attention of many Southern California residents.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it seemed to be a routine transport of military helicopters from point A to point B, but no further details were available.

Eyewitness News viewers in downtown L.A., Compton and Pasadena reported seeing about 13 military helicopters fly overhead.

"Scared the bejeezus out of us in #Pasadena our house & windows were RUMBLING and RATTLING! phew!," Nicole Biegenzahn Tweeted.

A group of fellow Patriot Guard Riders and I went to North Mississippi this week to honor a Marine KIA (RIP Eddie), and a crop duster was doing his thing, when all of a sudden he came from behind us right over our head following the road,, nearly wet myself, but was funny afterwards..

Back in 1988, I was on my way from Idaho to visit my grandmother in central Oregon. I had a radar detector up and running. All the sudden the detector lit up and went nuts with the alert. There were no cops within sight (straight road for miles and nothing to hide behind). An instant later two shadows briefly blotted out the sun. I figured I was done for. Out in the middle of nowhere, something coming out of the sky, electronics going nuts.

Turned out it was two EF-111s from Mountain Home AFB in Idaho doing some terrain following practice - their radars had set off my detector. They couldn't have been more than a couple of hundred feet up.

I was 1) glad they were ours, and 2) really glad they weren't piloted by little grey aliens.

LOL! Yep. South road past the Holloman active runway was just about 100 ft from the apron. A T-38 making a landing when you were passing underneath on your bike sounded like it went in your left ear and out your right ear.

I ALWAYS flinched. Wonder that I never wound up with road rash on that particular strip of road.

I call the roar of jets the 'sound of freedom'. I love seeing them, too. I got to see a V-22 and a B1B this week along with the standard fare of F-16s and F-18s.

I was born in the house next door, and we've always had aircraft flying over. Back in the day, it was B-58 Hustlers, and B-52s doing MITO take-offs. Shut down conversation completely for minutes at a time. We wound up with 2 broken windows from the Hustlers going super-sonic.

Hello, Patriot Guard. My wife, who is active in military family and Marine Moms activities and organizations, and I are PG fans. We appreciate all you do.

I hear you. I live on the east/west axis of McGuire AFB(southern NJ). I see C-17’s, L-10 Air re-fuelers and some C-141’s all the time. No big deal. God Bless the USAF.

There’s a MD Air Guard outfit equipped with A-10s not far from here.

Those things are a hoot as they fly in singles and formations of up to 4 planes. Rolls and wingovers and all kinds of neat moves. Even though the training is serious business, you can just tell the pilots are having the time of their lives.

I live in the Great Smoky mountains. The Air Force and possibly the USMC have a low level night training route on which C-130s and CH-53 helos fly down our valley, sometimes at or below the level of our house.

That rattling of the windows is the sound of Freedom being protected.
