‘American Idol’: Little Steven to guest-mentor
http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/05/01/american-idol-steven-van-zandt/
Its British Week on American Idol this week. And while you can expect the remaining five finalists to be singing songs made famous by artists from across the pond, theyll be mentored by a musician who is decidedly all-American. EW has learned that Steven Van Zandt, the guitarist from Bruce Springsteens E Street Band, will be the guest mentor on Idol tomorrow. Little Steven, as he is affectionately known, will be lending Jimmy Iovine a hand as the Idol mentor coaches the kids on English rock and pop on the May 2 performance show (Fox 8 p.m.).
Little Steven has a relationship with Jimmy that goes back to the 70s when the Interscope chairmen was a recording engineer on Springsteens early recordings. As far as Idol goes, the guitarist and his wife, Maureen, are unabashed fans. When two Idol alums season 8 winner, Kris Allen, and season 7 alum, Michael Johns attended the Springsteen concert in Los Angeles on Friday, she tweeted a photo with the caption, Handsome devils waiting for Bruce.
Maureen spilled the beans earlier that same day when she tweeted a photo of Little Steven sitting at a piano with some musicians. When fans inquired about the photo, Maureen revealed it was an Idol mentoring session. He loves to help young people, Maureen said of Little Stevens afternoon working with the Idols, So he had fun.
‘American Idol’ Top 5 take on British Week while Coldplay and Carrie Underwood perform
The “American Idol” Top 5 will take us on a (metaphorical) trip across the pond when they tackle the songs of U.K. artists during British Week. Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez will sing during Wednesday, May 2nd’s British music-themed performance show.
The following night, Coldplay and Carrie Underwood will perform during the results show. It’ll be Coldplay’s first visit to the “Idol” stage, where they’ll play a song from their latest album, “Mylo Xyloto.” Underwood of course is no stranger to “Idol,” having won Season 4 in 2005.
Coldplay, cool!! Carrie underwood, Evah So British! ??

River Deep, Mountain High. Gee I wonder who is going to try that one. hmmmm Who could it be? And Bleeding Ears err Love ACK!
Ken, I see someone is going to do Dusty Springfield’s You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me. How many calls to Hollie did you make? ;)
SInce when are Ike and Tina Turner “British Pop”?
Whoever sings it tonight will be in serious jeopardy tomorrow, unless his name is Phillip Phillips.
Nevermind my last post ;-) I did not “get” the division between 60’s amd Brit Pop the first time I read it.....I shall now go get more coffee ;-)
I can hear P2 singing “The Letter”...pervect voice match
They aren’t. They’re an act from “The 60s,” tonight’s other genre.
Another great song choice for Holly, IMHO would be Laura Branagan's "Gloria"...listen to it on Youtube.it'd be perfect for HC
With all due respect, I was not addressing you, and I DID correct myself in the next post. Thank you.
You’re welcome.
You’re right that would be a good one for P2.
We don’t really know who is doing what. I’ll take a guess. I’m not real comfortable with some of these guesses! LOL
60s:
Aint Too Proud To Beg - The Temptations -— Joshua
The Letter - The Box Tops —— Phillips
Proud Mary - Ike & Tina Turner -—— Skylar
Fortunate Son - Credence Clearwater Revival -— Hollie
River Deep, Mountain High - Ike & Tina Turner —— Jessica
British Pop:
To Love Somebody - The Bee Gees -— Skylar
Time of the Season - The Zombies -— Phillips
Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis —— Jessica
You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker —— Joshua
You Dont Have To Love Me - Dusty Springfield -— Hollie
Duet/Trio:
Higher and Higher - Jackie Wilson
Youve Lost That Lovin Feeling - The Righteous Brothers
Anyone else?
Oh c’mon, you’re not fooling anyone. We all know you’re in it just for the legs! LOL ;)
Do you still watch it later instead of live?
Since I'm an "It," in my case it should be "Anything else?"...but here are my guesses:
60s:
Aint Too Proud To Beg - The Temptations - Joshua Ledet
The Letter - The Box Tops Phillip Phillips
Proud Mary - Ike & Tina Turner - Jessica Sanchez
Fortunate Son - Credence Clearwater Revival - Skylar Laine
River Deep, Mountain High - Ike & Tina Turner Hollie Cavanagh
British Pop:
To Love Somebody - The Bee Gees - Joshua Ledet
Time of the Season - The Zombies - Phillip Phillips
Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis Jessica Sanchez
You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker Skylar Laine
You Dont Have To Love Me - Dusty Springfield - Hollie Cavanagh
If Hollie sings "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" she will knock it out of the park. Jessica will kill "Bleeding Love" but the AI FReepers will hate it, and it will get a "meh" or worse from this thread's host. Skylar will destroy "Fortunate Son" (in a good way!) if she sings it. "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" is an unfortunate choice for Joshua or for anybody else.
Thanks for not reading this!
