I hadnt thought of that. Obama is the “elite” compared to lowly, PSU and Pitt (state schools) Santorum. Bet Rick can even post his transcripts and BC.

There were three things that could be interpreted as nods to Palin in that speech: the disabled child emphasis, the C.S. Lewis quote(Palin’s favorite author), and the “Game on” phrase(used by Palin in a speech last summer). Think I’m reading too much into that?

The Game On stood out to me right out with the issue a few weeks back, right when Santorum started gaining traction, where Palin tweeted some support to him. It was like a shout out to his homey Palin.

The others things may be digging a bit deep but who knows.

Lazlo, how the heck did he lose to Bob Casey?

I can answer that.

First, the scumbag Democrat newsrooms went after Santorum relentlessly, particularly with regard to Santorum's critical attitude toward the homo agenda. It was literally a non-stop smear campaign. They successfully painted Rick as a homo hater, and they threw in a load of crap about Rick's residency, and where his kids attended school, etc... The scumbag Democrat newsrooms, who had harbored foam-at-the-mouth hatred for Santorum since the day he defeated liberal Harris Wofford to win the Senate seat in 1994, smelled blood in the water and they went after Rick like no tomorrow.

Second, the timing was real bad for Santorum just as it was for many Republicans in 2006. Bush had been relentlessly pummeled by the Democrat newsrooms and inexplicably just sat there like a punching bag, never fighting back. Remember, 2006 was the same election year that Nazi Pelosi and Co. took over Congress. Interestingly, Santorum actually did better than most other Republican candidates in Pennsylvania.

Third, Santorum's opponent was Bob Casey, Jr., who had very strong (and positive) name recognition. Nobody knew much about Junior, but they knew he was the son of former Governor Bob Casey, who was actually a very popular governor. (Note: I voted for Bob Casey, Sr. the year he ran for reelection as governor against the pro-abortion - - now officially switched to Democrat - - Barabara Hafer.)

Fourth, there was a lingering grudge against Santorum for supporting Arlen Specter in his primary against Pat Toomey. This endorsement of Specter was (obviously) a political mistake by Rick and it de-energized a portion of his conservative base. (Personally, I shrugged it off at the time as just the filthy underbelly of politics. It did turn out, though, that Santorum had extracted a promise from Specter to support Bush's conservative judge appointments.)

Add up all these elements and it was a perfect storm for Santorum's defeat. Still, I am proud to say I voted for the man three times for Senator and I look forward to voting for him again. He is a solid conservative, believe me.

Nice explanation.

Question, do you think the media will cut him any slack if he is the candidate against the big Zero?

I still haven’t found Santorum’s speech anywhere, but here’s a clip of Rick answering an interview question in the presence of his competitors. It is worth watching to the end. Note the others’ expressions.

Thanks. I have been taking so much heat here at FR for backing a “loser” all year. It’s good to see Rick do well so that everyone else can see this guy has some talent.

Happy to vote for Santorum tonight, though in my caucus Romney came in first and Paul second. Still, I feel vindicated as the rest of the votes have come in.

Folks say he has too much social conservative baggage to appeal to moderates and independents, that may be, and who knows who will get the party’s nomination, but I had to vote my conscience and I voted Santorum.

After what Romney did to Newt, and Newt blasted him for it, he’s not going to be able to lie so easily about Santorum.

Good grief, no.
The dying Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms will continue to pull out all the stops to prove (mostly to themselves) that they are still relevant and in fact, still able to fix elections. They will do everything in their power to get their Zero reelected. And I mean everything.

Maybe it’s heaven’s plan to have a candidate form the great state of Pennsylvania!

LOL. All PA had prior to this was James Buchanan. That is quite a dry spell.

Let's hope Rick can go all the way to get us back in the game again. Newt could even put PA back on the map.
