Because so many of us are posting from mobile devices, HTML is just not as useful anymore. Better for 2012 would be tricks we can use to get similar or at least useful effects, like putting a couple of dashes in a line below a quote will create a whole line of them, making it easy to separate what you are quoting and your comment.
If we had to post using HTML on ipads and phones, we wouldn't have time to post.
With that said, on a real computer, HTML is fun.

Just a personal preference but I wish more posters would use target="bodypage" when creating links. It opens a new window and doesn't take you away from the page your viewing.
