With not one Republican primary vote cast yet, we're getting way ahead of ourselves by speculating about whom Mitt Romney might pick as his vice-presidential running mate. But Willie Geist did invite Politico's Mike Allen to make his "bold predictions" for 2012. And Allen delivered, prognosticating that Romney would pick Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman as his ticket-mate.
Mark Halperin strongly seconded Allen's assertion.

...and many of those now howling against his candidacy will become his biggest cheerleaders. Sickening but expected and has a precedent. See the 2008 GOP race yes...absolutely and that is because there currently is a Marxist in the White House...so a moderate/lib Republican is like Reagan in comparison to zer0bambam....only I am not going to vote for him in the primaries.

I am sure it will be Rubio so we will be forced into a third party since neither major ticket will be eligible.
To: Vaquero
Whomever is up against Obama will have my vote as long as his name isn’t Mr. Ron Paul.

Rubio would be great.....but never in a million years will he be picked by Mittens
He can't have a better looking, more articulate dynamic speaker as his side kick

You are right about that, I am still flabberghasted about McCain, I remember when he started rising. I absolutely couldn’t believe it.

Sure but its rather jarring to read from posters how evil Romney is one month followed by plaudits for him the next. Intellectual honesty please.

The BIG question though - would his replacement be appointed by Kasich? Yes. If Portman is sworn in as VP in January 2013 then Governor Kasich would appoint a replacement who would then be up for reelection in 2014 to fill the rest of the term to be completed in 2016.
His replacement pick would likely be Mary Taylor, his Lt. Governor as she helped drag the ticket to victory in 2010. She would quickly become very popular among conservatives, men especially. Think Sarah Palin with a CPA.
If for some reason she was not the appointee then other possibilities would be Jon Husted or Josh Mandel, if he doesn't win in the fall.

I think I could get behind this even though she's a HAH-vahd liberal. She is one smokin' hot Israelite!
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Portman, don't know much about him except I think he was Bush's budget guy. Doesn't exactly excite.

Rubio would be great choice, but do not rule the Governor out just yet.

That would be interesting. I believe Lt. Gov. Taylor is from the Akron area, its always nice to see my hometown get some recognition for something positive.
