Slightly late ping ... my apology! (I’m not nearly as good as Red!)

Merry Christmas Freeper Gardeners! Here in the Colorado Rockies we will have a white Christmas. Got slammed with 3 feet of snow on top of another foot that was on the ground. My Toyota 4-Runner was just a bump in the snow. I have another day of snow shoveling today before I can get out.

Good morning, Gardeners! Nothing doing on the garden front here. I'm still trying to get my Christmas decorations up. Wishing you all a healthy, happy New Year. Here is my gift to you via Alaska:

Alaskan Hallelujah

This was filmed as a computer prooject for a frontier village to share with other frontier villages and has enjoyed thousands of views on YouTube, much their surpise. I just want to hug every one of these kids and townspeople. No wonder Sarah Palin loves Alaska! Teacher should have supervised the punctuation, but otherwise this is supurb!

Unseasonably warm weather in ATL means I still have parsley, thyme, oregano, and chives going great! I’m sure it won’t last.

Merry Christmas to all. We are having lots of very cold weather at the moment, though not as bad as it could be.

Not much gardening going on. Outdoor garden is full of lettuce. Second planting of indoor spinach is doing well. Lemon is almost ready to pick.

Today and tomorrow are baking days. Cookies, pies whatever for Christmas. Have a great weekend and holiday. Warm wishes to you and yours. God Bless.

Guilt over whelms me as we are having gorgeous sunny weather and all I can get done is refill the bird feeders.

May you all have a Blessed Christmas and a Productive New Year

Merry Christmas To All FReepers.

On a sad note - We lost our beloved 11 year old Irish Setter - Aladdin - yesterday. He slipped away quietly while taking his mid-morning nap. He had been having mobility problems on top of his canine epilepsy. We are missing him dearly.

This is for the chicken farmers on these threads and to remind us why FReeRepublic is here...

Old Butch

Mark was in the fertilized egg business.

He had several hundred young layers (hens), called ‘pullets,’ and
ten roosters to fertilize the eggs.

He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup
pot and was replaced.

This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached
them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance,
which rooster was performing.

Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report
by just listening to the bells.

Mark’s favorite rooster, old
Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old
Butch’s bell hadn’t rung at
all!
>>
>>When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy
chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

To Mark’s
amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn’t
ring.

He’d sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on
to the next one.

Mark was so proud of old Butch, he
entered him in the
Hamilton
County Fair and he became
an overnight sensation among the
judges.

The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the “No Bell
Piece Prize,” but they also awarded him the “Pulletsurprise” as well.

Clearly
old Butch was a Democrat in the making. Who else but a Democrat
could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on
our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting
populace and screwing them when they weren’t paying
attention.

VOTE CAREFULLY THIS YEAR, THE BELLS ARE NOT ALWAYS AUDIBLE!!!

Red, I am so sorry for your loss, but thankful that Aladdin went peacefully. You provided him a wonderful home and pack ... he had an excellent life. I wish you and Peggy great comfort in this difficult time.

I am sorry to hear that, Red...it causes me great pain to lose any of my pets. None of my pets have ever passed from natural causes at home, though...it has always been that final trip to the vet; which is something I dread more than anything. Aladdin passed at home in comfortable surroundings with his family...

I believe I will see my pets in the next world...keeps me focused. :-)
