Donald Trump Debate Now Just A Two-Man Affair

By Michael A. Memoli December 8, 2011 Is it too late to fire the moderator?

Two more Republican candidates -- Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry -- said thanks but no thanks to an invitation to participate in an Iowa debate managed by real estate mogul Donald Trump.

The Dec. 27 affair has now just two committed participants, one at the top of the GOP field and one distant aspirant, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, respectively.

Perry's campaign said he plans to focus his efforts on traditional retail campaigning in the closing weeks. His campaign announced plans for a 44-town bus tour starting next week.

Bachmann, who earlier this week had expressed reservations about Trump's impartiality, officially RSVPd no Thursday.

Conservative media group Newsmax announced last week it had partnered with Ion Television to host a debate, and had chosen Trump as the moderator.

Before the Perry and Bachmann announcements, Trump acknowledged that his role had given candidates pause.

"People are afraid that I'm going to run as an independent candidate and some of the people that are supposed to be in the debate have expressed that. And I don't want to give up that option, because it certainly is an option," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

If you remember the old climbing rope in grade school.....Newt is at the top knot. Be careful he doesn’t hit all the classmates coming down.

Yes!!! lol. My main problem with this besides the fact that it is Trump is that if he really found this to be important than why didn’t he schedule this back when the highly aggressive debate schedule was being agreed on. It wasn’t like Trump wasn’t out full force about the birth certificate. Plus he has said he has not decided on whether running an Independent run. That is number one reason to tell Trump NO!!!!

Thank God that there are no pics of a “Two-Man Affair.”

Santorum vs Newt would be a good debate. Let the others blow it off.

Yes, there's that and there's this that caveat emptor posted up the thread.

None other than the disgraced traitor and former CNN journalist Eason Jordan is producing this abomination of a "debate".

Just curious, after the Obama/McCain failure as senators, why would one go to that worthless body and tap another senator for POTUS?

We went 48 years without a senator for POTUS and what did we get in 2008 in the final election?

Two senators.

And how did that work out?

Sounds like a plan. I thought Newt could just debate himself taking all his differing position on the issues. Now that would be a show!

If anything it will elevate Santorum.

I agree. Santorum doesn’t have the charisma, but he does have the background to serve well and honorably. He will probably do better with just the 2 candidates, and having time to respond thoughtfully. He’s always overlooked in the larger group, and ends up coming across as angry, not helping his cause. I would imagine this forum will be as civil as the Newt/Cain event a few weeks ago.

About now, Trump is stomping his feet and holding his breath like a little kid throwing a fit of anger. Unfortunately, he’ll probably start breathing again.

Maybe the people putting it on will cancel it now and show re-runs of whatever.

Lets watch these guys take on the problems as Trump sees them. He may be one cocky SOB but he isn’t stupid.

Donald Trump has taken Obama to the woodshed. What have you detractors/keyboard commandos done? So called conservatives really disgust me these days. All you whiners do is eat your own, go join the dems. The rest of us will back those who fight. Bunch of pussies.

Newt, Trump and Newsmax should all disown the whole thing. I don’t know what ION television is, but they must be the one supplying Jordan as the producer. This stinks to high heaven.

I am with eydigress. If none of them can handle “The Donald” then they are so screwed when they have to go up against BO.

I think they all need to attend. They look like they are scared of him if they don’t. For one thing Donald is going to hitting hard on the economy and this is a great chance for the candidates to distinguish themselves on their vision for the future of America Vs Obama. The MSM has avoided the economy because they know how bad it makes ZerO-bama look. Secondly even if Trump is planning to run against them what better place to debate him and get one’s views heard and go head to head with The Donald. If they can’t handle Donald Trump they might well pack it in before they go up against the BO-Chicago machine.

Plus there will be a lot of people tuning in that don’t normally watch politics just because of the Donald Trump brand and they will get a chance to hear the other candidates.

The Trump debate is a win-win for anyone attending. A lot of this bs talk about Trump debate is from a lot of people who fear him and his brand and it will hurt them if it turns out really good. Trump could end up setting a higher standard and force the lame stream media to have to start questioning their messiah BO-The-Zero for ratings in future debates.

What do you care if it is Newsmax or Ion. It is questions from a very successful real estate mogul that has a YYuuooge ego. Does that scare you. Wouldn’t it be nice to hear the answers to his concerns..........Good God People.

The backlash against Trump’s debate is probably because he dared to mention the Obama eligibility issue. Trump refused to kiss the GOP ring and be silent about the Usurper .
