Reading many, many, comments about Rick Perry it has ocurred to me that a great many FReepers don't really know Rick Perry. They know of him from 30 second blurbs, bad sound bites and poor debate performances.
This is not the real Rick Perry. You can get a much better picture of the man by watching him in one on one interviews, live speeches and town hall settings. Governor Perry has a plan to restore our country to greatness and it's worth hearing. He's got a complete tax reform program, a jobs and energy plan that go hand in hand. He's absolutely right about shrinking the size and scope of the federal government and he knows what he's talking about when he talks of State's Rights! You can find out a lot just by catching youtubes of his speeches.
You can also learn alot about what kind of a solid and patriotic conservative Rick Perry is by reading his book, 'FED UP Our fight to Save America From Washington'. If you can afford to buy the book, I urge you to do so and when you are finished pass it along to someone else who might benefit. If you're not in a position to be buying books at this time, I can certainly understand and I'd like to help. While I'm not in a position to buy a book for everyone who might like one I would like to do what I can. To that end I'll send a book to the first ten FReepers (who aren't already Perry supporters but who are willing to give him their honest consideration) who freepmail me and tell me where to send one. The only thing that I ask is that you actually read the book and then pass it along to someone else. No strings attached and I'll get them on the way ASAP.
I’ve defaulted to Perry at this point as less flawed than Newt and with a better (less bad) track record.
Of course, next week we’ll find out that Perry is gay and/or has 25 children out of wedlock. /s

No thanks.
It looks like it’s Perry’s turn at bat (again).
Folks’ enthusiasm for Newt seems to be peaking a little early. I wonder if the brakes will come on as people think about The Baggage, and give Perry a second look.
I prefer perry to newt. At that values “debate” he was bright and competent, and his IQ went up 20 points in my estimation. I might be too “heartless” for his illegals policy but all candidates left are pro amnesty except Bachmann, whom I don’t like for pres.
I don’t know what to do. I’m feeling very deceived. But I wish perry were up there with Romney and Gingrich.
Perry has been such a disappointment. If he didn’t shoot himself in the foot multiple times, he’d be cruising to the nomination right now. I was very excited about his candidacy when he jumped in and gave him the benefit of the doubt when he made his first couple of gaffes, but then he kept making them over and over and over. I guess I’m still relucantly for him — he’s the only one with a national organizaton other than Mitt; Gingrich and Cain don’t have one — but it appears his traction is gone and a lot of people have written him off.
As a Texan, I do not need to read Perry’s book as I have witnessed the reality of his leadership.
He has led our state to granting in-state tuition for illegal aliens.
He has led out state to granting 250 million dollars for an F1 race in the Austin area.
He has led our state to require that high school kids be tested for steroids.
He has led our state to banning teenagers from tanning salons.
He has led our state to require that adults and even high school kids wear seatbelts in the back seat of cars. (How does he expect high school lovers to enjoy the back seat of a car if they must be wearing seatbelts?)
He has led our state to use taxpayer dollars to pay for kids braces and provide rides to the dentist.
Trust me, in Texas we are Fed Up!
“... I might be too heartless for his illegals policy”
But you’re not too inhumane for Gingrich’s illegals policy?
You are qualified to speak for yourself. I don't know who this 'we' is of whom you speak. I know a lot of Texans who love their Governor and who are working hard to see him win the GOP nomination.
In case you hadn’t noticed, his judicial appointments have lead to the seizure of our voting rights.
I’ll get it from the library. Times are tough. No need for you to put yourself out like that.
Think back to the first couple of debates where he really stumbled. He was in campaign mode, introducing himself to America and he got gobsmacked right upside the head at that first debate...second one too. It was Rick Perry vs the modrators and all the other candidates in those first coupole of debates. And Santorum and Bachmann were vicious and not overly concerned with the truth, fairness or decency. Obama and Romney were never criticized it was an all out frontal attack on Perry. No wonder he stumbled and came off unbalanced. But in all fairness you have to say he’s done MUCH better of late and he’s an awesome retail politicker.
“I know a lot of Texans who love their Governor...”
I am sure that the illegal aliens at Texas Colleges and Texas Universities love their governor.
Can't help that. Appointed judges are a bane to our existence and every GOP President in the modern age has been bitten by bad judicial appointees.
The next President will have 3, maybe 4 vacancies to fill on the Supreme Court. The only thing we know for certain is that obama will appoint the most left wing, statist, globalist judges he can find.
As I see things as they are today. This is going to be a contest between Romney and Perry.
I’ll take Perry - warts and all.
If those are your only choices you are asking the wrong question.
If the Republican party puts up one of the two open borders socialist clones then Third Party is the only conservative option.
Yeah yeah yeah...don’t you know any other songs? You’re getting to be a real bore.
Nope
I'm willing to bet you wouldn't have to take off both your shoes to count them.
