GUT CHECK: Is America's Christmas about Christ? Or about buying imported communist Chinese crap?
(vanity)

Posted on 11/26/2011 6:01:02 PM PST by Cringing Negativism Network

Want to consider something for a change, rather than simply accept mass advertized "free trade" propaganda from Walmart during this season, to be buying crap made in China?

Bureaucracy, regulations, and unions are primarily responsible for the woebegone manufacturing in America.

Exactly correct. And these internal issues can be dealt with through policy here in the US - without having to deny consumers access to goods because our government and bloated, corrupt unions prevent American companies from competing properly.

The foreign competition is precisely why American consumers are no longer stuck buying Big-3 junk. These companies were eventually FORCED to compete and at least now make a somewhat decent product (though still probably not up to foreign standards). Somehow Toyota and Honda are very profitable while making cars in the USA. The difference is they avoid anti-business, pro-union states like Michigan and Ohio and instead go to right to work, forward thinking, pro-business states in the South. There is nothing wrong with the American worker, the problem is policy that is easily correctable if Americans recognize the problem and vote for appropriate changes.

You go ahead quoting globalist propaganda.

It suits you.

I’ll side with America, thank you.

Get used to it. Everything is from China

Apple products = 100% manufactured in China
Walmart product = 80% import from China.

OK.

True enough. So we simply quit?

Talk about red herrings!

All I have done is criticized your lack of intelligence, reasoning and debating ability. Which is quite easy to do by the way.

Where did I quote any “globalist propaganda”? Show me the quote. Just one. I’m waiting.

You are either drunk or truly illiterate.

Or likely both.

A little advice. Bookmark this thread and the next time you feel like posting a vanity reread it and note how you made a fool of yourself and just don’t do it.

Whatever.

Thanks.

So did you want to discuss American jobs or not?

Not with someone bereft of any understanding of the subject.

No.

Maybe you and Obama can discuss it.

That would be a level playing field.

I have things to do so when you come up with the quote you lied about get back to me. Since you can’t do that I’ll not be checking back in until tomorrow.

Toodles.

I’ll go ahead then and call that “running away”.

I was straight up looking for you to explain why not America first.

You failed.

Nice attempted red herring though. That is the globalist, “free trade” talking point, is it not?

No, it is reasoned, conservative thought on the subject of manufacturing and trade. I have offered many clear reasons we as a nation are not as competitive as we should be, and plenty of solutions - starting with a reduction of bureaucracy and the administrative state, deeply cutting regulations, policy that curtails union power to include ending all public sector unions to reduce their overall strength and right to work laws to force unions to deliver value to their members, lower corporate taxes, etc. These are all things we can do at home to become more competitive globally WITHOUT imposing additional tariffs which drive up consumer costs or kicking of needless trade wars.

What little substance you offer to back up your "America first" vanities is, whether you realize it or not, union talking points. They, and apparently you, do not want to address the reasons why American manufacturing is not as competitive as it could be, instead you just want to blame someone else (mostly China) and make American consumers pay more so unionized American labor can artificially avoid competing. You do not offer any solutions to tackle the root of the problem. Instead you posit an isolationist view that says American companies shouldn't have to compete because we can just live in a cocoon and buy and sell among ourselves and ignore the rest of the world. Never mind that this policy, even in the near term, would put the US companies at a severe disadvantage as the world is going to globalize and become more interconnected whether you want it to or not.

As I said, I take you as a well meaning, pro-American guy. I just think you haven't really thought this stuff out very thoroughly which leaves you believing that simple nationalistic sounding policy can solve what are much deeper problems which require a lot of national self reflection and changes. It is hard for some to admit the competitiveness problems are largely of our own making. Some would rather blame others - first Japan, then Korea and now China. I know you are a patriotic American and I am glad to have you on my side as a conservative, I just think you are badly misguided on this issue.

We never quit. We create an environment here where it is cost effective for business to remain in the US — and that starts by removing Government regulation and reducing taxes. Profit is not a dirty word.

I think you seem like you’re actually thinking.

Fact is, if we don’t stop finding excuses to fire Americans, we’re done.

In general, tariffs are very bad economic policy. They can sometimes be useful as a weapon against specific countries that are using economic policy as part of an overall strategy to harm us. But in general, all they do is add costs.

Now, if you wanted to cut other taxes, such as excises and sales taxes, you might be in a better position.

I’m merely suggesting that its not Walmart’s fault, or Apple’s fault that most of our products and/or manufacturing is in China. I lay the blame at YEARS of Government regulation that has had businesses in the cross hairs. Once we can get the government off our backs, things will thrive again. But that means no more RINOs, no socialists, etc.

I’m for that.

Do you realize the total dollar value of all imports as recently as 2009 was almost identical to the dollar value of all taxes collected. Within a percent.

That means, at 2009 levels we could replace (and eliminate) every other tax dollar, with one single, 100% import tariff.

So. Why are we frozen in stubborn refusal to move?

It’s not like what we’re doing now, is working.

It’s destroying our country.

You’d be better off advocating less regulation, lower corporate taxes and less unionization.

Those are things we can actually do to become competitive instead of knee jerk tariffs and starting idiotic trade wars.

Why would we want to compete with the Chinese???

Oh, you mean like getting used to bathing in our drinking water and working for a dollar forty an hour...

And you forgot a couple...We'll need to develop a real likin' for rice and bicycles...

LOL!

Running away from you? I am only up now to find out why the dogs were barking and am going to go back to bed.

All you have done on this thread is to prove that you can’t make a cogent point and that you are a liar.

Come on liar boy, find the post you referenced.

As to explaining anything to you, you have proven that you are so uneducated, ignorant and stupid that I suggested you discuss this issue with Obama. Maybe you can get a fifth grader to explain to you what I meant.

Now I’m back to bed, or “running away” as apparently the limp wrist OWS crowd is calling it today.

I can’t wait to check what drivel flowing from your ass to your keyboard I’ll find tomorrow. I however can expect one thing; that you are going to stew in your wee juices all night knowing that everyone reading our exchange is laughing their butts off at you.

Now you try to sleep tight ‘lil feller.

Watch him come back with more stupid overused whining points. It is after all a standard school yard liberal tactic.

Night all.
