I wanted to share a FACEBOOK private Message I received tonight from an old friend (actually, my first boyfriend) who now lives in Massachussetts. Anyone who is my FACEBOOK friend knows my politics, hence..this..
Hi Hildy, I write to you privately so as not to air our differences in public.
Do you still think much of Herman Caine, [sic] who knows nothing of foreign affairs, and admits it. Is this who should make decisions that will effect the entire world? Do you really not believe that it is the 1% are the ones who the republicans cater to? Do you really believe that they care about "Joe six pack", or just lure him in to believe that he too can have some of that American pie "? I live in a million dollar home and have considerable savings, but still have the heart to care about those less fortunate.I truly believe that the republicans are about keeping the tax cuts for the extremely wealthy and let the poor working schmuck pay all the rest. I find this despicable, and don't mind paying my fair share of tax's, as long as the supper wealthy pay their share. What's your take on this?

I can certainly understand why you are upset. The moral superiority on display is breath taking. I think it’s narcissism. These people have to consider themselves superior one way or another and so they create situations to imagine themselves as superior. I think this lies behind true racism as well.
Lately I have been thinking about this very issue - the left’s superior self-image. They seem to believe that giving poor people a welfare check should entirely sustain the poor - the left does not seem to acknowledge or even know that the ‘little people’ also need to have purpose, to feel like their lives matter and that they contribute something to society. How is this not obvious? Your leftist friend would not consider meals without a job, purpose in life, or contribution sufficient to sustain THEM but they really think that the poor really just need ‘free stuff’ without any reason to get up in the morning. Like dogs or cats - the left seems to think we should just ‘leave food out for them’ and tell ourselves we are caring people for doing so. They ignore the rage of the slums and think it’s our fault - not the natural result of treating people like dogs or cats. Oh I know there are plenty of poor who have tried to adjust to the life offered by the left - they aren’t happy or healthy.
I guess the rich (among the left) really are ‘different’, aren’t they?
At least Cain is aware of that and openly admits it--which gives him a chance of selecting advisors who do know what is going on and who will get it right. That stands in contrast to those who have 'a plan' and will make a further mess of things.
At least he knows he doesn't know, and that is a start.
Do they realize Barry Soetoro is a community lawyer with no knowledge of international affairs and has drastically damaged our standing in the world and weakened all of our allies? Do they realize Soetoro cut Medicare? do they realize 1% is just a mathematical quantity?

If it were me, I wouldn't take it personally. I would have said something like: "Great to hear from you, not sure I totally understood the logic in your comments, but then again, you never were one for pillow talk."
And leave it at that. Not attempt to persuade to the conservative point of view, no gnashing of the teeth, nothing. He doesn't deserve a reaction.
Well, if he’s in Calif. and owns a million dollar house, he’s probably doing what most chiropractors here do, milk the workers’ comp system, big time. It’s just about the perfect crime. It is rampant here, although there ARE a FEW good honest ones still, just a few.

Well I live in a $100,000 house, not paid for, have almost zilch in savings but still donate to the food bank at my church, drive miles to attend funerals and stand flag lines for fallen soldiers, shovel snow for nearest 3 nighbors who are more elderly then I am and have medical issues. And volunteer time for various activities for children at my church. If it wasn’t for the liberal/socialist/democrat policies over the past 35 plus years that have destroyed this nations savings, job outlook and ability to prosper maybe we would not need to donate to the food banks as much!

Hildy, you can also pass this along if you’d like: I live in a house that because of Chris Dodd and Barney Frank is now just at the break even line. That means IF we can find a buyer, it will sell for the loan and pay off the realtor. We will have lost over $20k in equity and down payment.
As for charitable giving of this hate-filled Republican household, my husband makes just under $100k, and after bills are paid, we financially support our church, St. Joseph’s Catholic charity for the Lakota Indian Children and various other charities that your friend might find too boring to take the time to read about.
So the next time you big mouthed high dollar friend has the gall to speak like an idiot and feel so good about himself, maybe you should tell him that he ought to take some of that equity in his million dollar home and GIVE IT to the Lakota Children. God knows they need the money more than he does!

It is nice to know that you cannot keep something private.
If someone asked me to keep something private I would even if I disagreed with the person.
My nephew is huge liberal and he gave me a nasty gram on facebook. He had the same talking points as MSNBC.
