Things are getting dicey. While some States allow gun open carry and others allow concealed or both, many good folks just don't want to have to carry all the time.
While I wish all good citizens would carry, here is an alternative for those who still would defend themselves and those innocents around them.
I understand that everyone is built different, but I'll tell you what; my grandfather grew up in the deep south in the early 1900s. He moved the family to Los Angeles during WWII, and carried a Browning 1911 on him until he got so old, the kids had to hide it from him.
The man was from the old-old school, and didn't give a damn what the bs California gun laws said. He lived by the maxim: Better to be judged by twelve, than carried by six. He never had to shoot anyone (that he'd admit to), but he sure made lots of degenerates back down over the years.
Nearly everything I carry in my tool belt could kill, if I had a mind to use my tools that way. My work truck is a veritable arsenal of killing weapons.

I used to be a carpenter so I know what you mean. Hammers, rigging axe, various pry bars, crow bar, sledge hammer, mattock handle, utility knives... enough to arm a platoon and no cop in the world would ever think twice about you possessing it. :-)
I've often thought of that, while working in some of the more seedy areas of the city. Even though I wasn't 'carrying', I knew that any degenerate who wanted to try something with me, would likely end up maimed or dead, due to the fact that I was actually armed with an array of deadly instruments.

Carry a can of wasp spray...works over distance, and incapcitates immediately.

Cops told my friend to carry cans of oven cleaner in her car. She was traveling often & in nasty areas. Said it will do a hurting on the face. I don’t know if it works as I am not trying it. I live by these rules, don’t put yourself in places where you shouldn’t be. Don’t get drunk & walk out of a bar, shop with a friend & don’t be an easy target. Fight back & scream, bite, kick, etc. Never use stairways because they are places that people can hide in. Ask somebody to walk you to your car if its late. And every room in my house has some weapon in it. You wouldn’t know what it is or where it is but I do. If my gut tells me to get out of a place I do. I always trust my gut feeling. As for a knife. I carry a buck knife all the time on the farm. Its sharp & handy. However I do not count on it as being able to save me. The shovels,metal muck rakes, axes & etc in my barn & the Great Pyrenees are my best hope.
Very good. I’m going to replace my wife’s pepper spray with a pepper gel. She also has a “Knuckle Blaster”, but better to be off from an attacker and use the gel. Thanks.
Sorry guy, not everyone can carry at all times. I said so above. So what is the alternative? Years of martial arts training? Krav Maga type kill points that also needs training?
Although someone above mentioned “gel” pepper spray, which would be better than an aerosol, a taser for distance or a stun gun for up close would be the best deterrent if you don’t have a gun according to State law.

Got it and like it. However, not everyone is willing or able to carry. So for those who don’t, I’m just suggesting an alternative. It’s legal in most States. If you want distance than carry a taser (bulky). If you’re okay as the perp is close, than carry a stun gun.
Sheesh. Why is this so for some to understand (not you)? Just check out the site. Good stuff for the those who can’t defend themselves due to old age or being a smaller female. My wife has one and feels very secure having it. And yes, I’ve shown her how to use it.
It’s very simple. Pull it out of your pocket or purse and put in your knuckles; push the front power button up (suggest whiteout or other to make it more visible); pull index finger...and ZAP! 1,2,3.
I know that sounds like a lot compared to pulling your 9mm. But think about it, you have to pull your 9 or other out; disengage the safety depending; pull the slide back to chamber and aim. What if your opponent is within arms reach? He could possibly knock your weapon aside and/or overcome you. If you have the “Blast Knuckles” high voltage defense weapon, he can’t take it away and you merely have to push the button!
Like I said above, especially check out the “Blast Knuckles”. Almost impossible to be knock out of your hand or taken away, and enough voltage to bring the bad guy down. They have many others, but the can be knocked out of hand.

Where did you hail from? I grew up in Gardena until I left for the streets in my 16th year and than moved around Hawthorne, Lawndale, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. Where were you? What schools did you go to? Are you old enough to remember cruising Hawthorne Blvd. all the way up to the Whitchstand (sp)? Best cruising Blvd. of all, although Whittier Blvd was kinda cool.
I agree with what your Dad said about not getting into a car. Best advice ever.
Back to my point: Sounds like you and I have had the same experiences with the biker stuff. I used to carry a switch-blade back in the ‘70’s until it confiscated by a cop. Now when I rarely ride (still have a ‘95 WideGlide) and go to the biker joints I carry a flip-open knife and my “Blaster Knuckles”. The knife is mostly for utility and fix it. The “Blaster Knuckles” are in case some 1% or anyone moves in on me, so I can Zap and run. I’m too damn old to go fist to fist.
You’re from Jersey? Some tough crowd in certain areas.
BTW, I’m a member in good standing with the Patriot Guard Riders. So, I guess you could call me a biker.
