This is great news for the abiotic theory of oil generation. If the stars can create petroleum, why can’t the earth. The theory that oil can only come from millions of years of decayed biomass seems to be weakening with time. Of course even if we learn that oil is abiotic, it does not mean it replenishes quickly in the earth. But still great news for us gas hogs.

I have long wondered that, if oil is made by a process that starts with biomass, and slowly is pressed and processed into crude petroleum...

Where is the unfinished oil? There ought to be some freshly started stuff that’s not oil yet, but will be in some thousands of years. Where’s the stuff that’s only half done?

Say you were to survey a thousand geologists and petroleum engineers in private industry on whether they believed in abiotic oil. How would it break down?
