Been noticing something.
Liberals seem to be a bit jumpy about Marco Rubio.
Want to slime him. Almost like they were about Palin...
Interesting.
Point taken. Thank you.
There’s no reason other than he’s not a Natural Born Citizen.
No, his parents failed to become citizens until some 20 years later. If they'd become naturalized before he was born, he'd be eligible to run for POTUS. He's doing a fine job where he is, don't go messing it up.
So real experience that qualifies someone for the most powerful executive position in the world is now based on what his parents did ten years before he was born? Lawyer (law degree, no time practicing), legislator, no executive experience, one term senator. What are his qualifications for President? He's cute and speaks well?
Well.
Those qualifications, most certainly do win elections.
Just saying. Nothing whatsoever against Bob Dole...
Put on your flame retardant suit. There are many on FR that believe Rubio is not eligible to be president.
They seem to not be able to get past the constitutional requirements,
YES he is.
Read the constitutional requirements for president, Rubio meets them all.
IMHO, It’s probably not a good idea to just throw out the Constitution whenever it is convenient. Marco Rubio does not qualify to be president of the United States. He was born in 1972, his parents became citizens in 1975.
Article II section 1.5 clause 5, of the U.S. Constitution: No Person except a natural born Citizen ... shall be eligible to the Office of President
Natural Born Citizen: Anyone born on U.S. soil to U.S. citizen parents.
"Additions might always be made to the citizenship of the United States in two ways: first, by birth, and second, by naturalization. This is apparent from the Constitution itself, for it provides [Footnote 6] that "No person except a natural-born citizen or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of the Constitution shall be eligible to the office of President"
"The Constitution does not in words say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also."
"Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. For the purposes of this case, it is not necessary to solve these doubts. It is sufficient for everything we have now to consider that all children born of citizen parents within the jurisdiction are themselves citizens.
Yes he is. Read the constitutional requirements for president.
Conservatives will have to convince him to be Vice President, let alone running for President.
He has said no repeatedly to both.
Rubio would look like a fool running for President at this late date. I don’t know if he would take the VP slot .. no one does except him. He has said no about 40 times so far.
I can see the news media doing a full investigation of Rubio's birth certificate ...
... maybe ...
Suggest you review the constitution.
Judges don’t make law.
As for your “some authorities” conjecture, well, you might want to check under your bed. There might be goblins...
Sorry, but I don't think such an asinine comment deserves much of a reply.
You either care about Constitutional qualifications or you don't.
To be honest, there’s room for reasonable minds to differ on what natural-born means.
In practice, it seems to mean native born.
There are certainly other views. However from a practical standpoint it would seem the legal position is that native born is in fact the legal requirement.
Which makes Marco Rubio constitutionally eligible for the job.
Moreso that Obama, or arguably even John McCain...
Sorry that dog won’t hunt. It has nothing to do with your or my or any individual’s definition of eligible. It has to do with the historical definition of the Constitution as interpreted by the SCOTUS. That would be born in the US of two US citizen parents. Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal good guys that they may be are not eligible to be president of the United States. I believe that Rubio knows he is not eligible and has the integrity not to try to run as does Bobby Jindal.
Just because one cat got through the door does not mean that we are going to make that mistake again. In addition the Republican party does not need the lawsuits and uproar that would ensue if Rubio attempted to run for President or VP. We need to get BHO out of office with as little fanfare as possible.
The abomination sitting in the White House now is living proof that the founding fathers had good reason to require the President to be a “natural born citizen” not a native born citizen which is what Rubio and Jindal are.
I'd like a citation showing when SCOTUS said that.
