She could have been one of the greats; does anyone doubt that?

I moved on weeks ago but still, I was holding out hope; willing to change my position. A Palin/Perry, Perry/Palin was my dream ticket and was my tag line for a while because in my heart, I truly believe they could right this ship. Energy, Individual freedom, the american dream are concepts both of these individuals truly grasp.

It is what it is. However, Governor Palin, from the day she resigned, allowed the illusion to continue.

Speaking with some of her supporters today (myself included) I saw disappointment (an under-statement) and disgust. Now some one here may flame that remark but it's true. Just talk to your neighbors and friends and family and you will see.

She was the bright spot in the darkness we are in. Now that is gone and her credibility is diminished.

Like Drudge said: it's a sad day in America...

She turned away from power, because she wants to be a regular person.

This is the Sarah Palin we’ve known all along, and it’s the same quality we’ve always loved about her.

"In the end it turns out that you are just another politician."

You know, I'll bet real money that you were one of the folks in this forum that called me everything from an idiot to an Obama supporter in the past couple of years for saying similar words. LOL

Family loyalty is an important component, since the press would have hounded her family mercilessly.

But there was another component — not worth Palin’s mention because family loyalty is enough — and that is this:

She.
Could.
Not.
Win.

And she’s smart enough to know that.

So get over it.

She couldn’t win, she knew it, and she decided not to go down to certain defeat.

So get over it.

It’s pretty easy to demand somebody sacrifice their lives, their careers and their family peace for a principle when it’s somebody other than you. And it’s pretty cheap to criticize them for not wanting to when they’ve already made more sacrifices for the cause than most of the folks on this site. Including myself.

Screw all of you.

Some people uprooted their lives and some, spent their savings because of the belief they had in you.

Never pin your hopes too firmly on a mere mortal.

The absolutely incredible and historic opportunity presented to you has now been squandered.

With true sadness, I agree with you.

For whatever reasons, Governor Palin indeed squandered a once in a generation, all the stars align opportunity. We all lost yesterday.

I'm sure there was a very good reason. I only hope the person, or people for whom that decision was made, appreciate the enormity of what they have been given.

The Left and the Mainstream Media have been painting her as more of a Celebrity than a true leader. It appears now that they were RIGHT, and many Conservatives like myself, who thought she was fearless Patriot who would give her life for this country, were WRONG.

It's a sobering thought to admit that the Left and the MSM were better judges of a Conservative's character than I was.

The truth is, they're ALL just another politician...and we should never forget it.

Considering how much I’ve been looking forward to a Palin run, I’m amazingly content with her decision. And I still support her today as much as I ever did.

How can I truly fault her decision? She and her family have been put through 100x more hell than any other politician, enduring such white-hot hatred deliberately ginned up by the media. It’s truly inconceivable to imagine what this must be like, even with a family as obviously strong as the Palins. The endless smears, the death-threats, the expensive security, and having to endure such vile crap as what Bristol went through two weeks ago.

The savagery of the past month seemed to portend that the headwinds were too impossible to fight. I truly believe Palin wanted to run, and had even decided for a while to run. But between the non-stop lies/smears from the media and the (threats?) from the GOP establishment quarters, it really became an insurmountable task, a virtual suicide mission. One has to bow to a certain reality. It might appear evil has won the day, and in many ways it has.

But it was her decision, and I believe it will ultimately prove to be the correct one.

If the Founding Fathers had put family first, we’d all have crooked teeth and be driving on the wrong side of the road.

I have to say I agree with you. As I said on another thread, people were not buying her books, selling out her speeches, and traipsing all over Iowa for who she was, but for who she could be.

Hey, I have an idea, why don’t we try to get Fred Thompson to run? /s

I am still sort of stunned. And a bit angry (for being strung along). But I wish her nothing but the very best. She will remain a strong voice for conservatism. I am sure of that.

Sarah's not interested in being "great." She is being obedient to God and that is the more important quality we should all strive for. I am happy for her and I look forward to what God has in store for her. The Bible tells us to put our faith in God and not in Man. The reasons are obvious, judging from yours and several other threads, blogs and articles.

I would think you would have learned from the Obama experience that one politician is not going to save you or the country just because he or she is telegenic and charismatic. I believe in conservative values and I support those politicians who share my values but I don't put my complete faith in those politicians to solve every problem. They are humans and will fail. I put my trust in God because he never fails. That way I don't wake up one day bitter, angry and pouty-face.

She could have been great if she had a political party backing her.

The Republican party did not help her in 2008, in Alaska once she returned, or in the last 3 years. Even worse, they hindered her....actively squashed her, along with the entire Democrat party apparatus of MSM, Hollywood and Academia.

The GOP is dead.

FR just doesn't know it yet.

The GOP would have never supported her. That is the sad truth. GOP = Socialist Lite. They’ll go the way of the Whigs after 2012. Don’t blame Sarah for the RINO sellouts.

You act like she’s passed on or something...sheesh...she’s only 46....and she will be VERY helpful to the Conservative movement (as she SAID LAST NIGHT). She’ll BE BACK!!! Just maybe not in the role YOU wanted her in. I don’t believe it was HER time to be President, and she knew it....it may be in the future.

Reposting and updating from a different thread:

I've been a Palinista since I first learned about her in 2007, but my thoughts and opinions follow yours closely.

What infuriates me at this stage was the cutsie-cutsie "Now you see me, now you don't. Maybe I will, maybe I won't..." game she has been playing with the media and US for the last several months.

There's an uncouth word for girls who like to play that sort of teasing game and leave their men panting in agony -- I won't repeat it here.

Sigh...

Suffice to say it would have been so MUCH better if she had decided and announced this months ago. Better for the country, better for Conservatives, better for the Republican Party -- and for her own credibility -- which has now been shot to pieces.

She is never going to regain the level of trust and passionate dedication that was hers until yesterday. That's a fact.

She's finished as anything more than a celebrity at this point. No one is ever going to consider her seriously for office at the national level again.
