They are tiny, destructive and they bite - so whatever you do don't ant-agonise them.
A plague of pesky little alien invaders are causing mayhem as they spread across America

I HATE ants! Give me napalm, kerosene, gasoline, grenades....whatever it takes to beat those suckers!Q
OK, I'll bite. What the heck is a Gulf Shrimpy?
Try diatomaceous earth. It kills most bugs.
Thing is that boric acid is cheaper and longer lasting esp. when dusted into crawl spaces. At home we’d look for their trail and lay a dust coating across it. Next hour or so they’re dragging their dead mates out and piling them up.
> Last summer we had a bad case of carpenter ants...
We used to have carpenter ants too. I tried for several years to get rid of them and finally spoke to someone at the Connell Cooperative.
What I learned was exactly opposite of whay I’d been taught before.
They never destroy undamaged wood (ternmites do that). Their food supply isn’t the wood; it’s the mold, mildew and dryrot fungus. The entomologist told me that if you look for the sawdust or you follow them back to the nest they will point out any wood in your house that is dry or wet rotted and needing replacement. We did that and found that the roof sheathing was full of rot and mildew. We replaced a dozen or so sheets of sheathing and haven’t seen an ant since. If you hose them down with insecticide you will kill them, but they’ll be back in a year or two.
Baking soda is good on some insects too. And then there’s beer. If you get a cockroach drunk he will lose his inhibitions and let you kill him. Pill bugs (which are actually not bugs but crustaceans) can’t handle beer. It should work on ants also.
Simple Green.
We don't eat those awful tasting shrimp that are farm-raised in some backwater third world country.
Tapirs are nasty critters.
They have claws that would do a backhoe proud.
I must be trippin’ because it looks like Ross Perot to me.
Boric Acid works great on roaches. That’s all I use.
I hate fire ants. I keep kerosene for those sobs, works great for a fast kill including their eggs if they’re at the top. I dig them up and pour away.
Just don’t use it anywhere you want a plant to grow. Sometimes I think they know that because they like to get in my big flower pots.
Fortunately we don’t have fire ants but the kerosene sounds good. Thanks for that info.
Ping
Is that Salvador Dali?
Do you think this would work better than the boiling water on the fire ant hill method ping.
Try a dab of vanilla extract (clothing/skin). It seems to work pretty well around here at keepint the bugs at bay.
