Since its debut in 2004, The X Factor has remained the U.K.'s #1 program for the last seven years, peaking with an audience of 21 million for its 2010 finale. The format swiftly broke similar records around the world, where local versions have consistently rated #1. The series has received numerous honors worldwide, and more than 100 million records have been sold by artists launched through the series, including over 90 #1 singles and albums and 150 Top Ten records. In a departure from other singing competition series, the first time contestants audition for The X Factor judges, Simon Cowell, Antonio "L.A." Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, they will do so in front of an audience of thousands - raising the stakes and increasing the pressure to impress not only the judges, but also a potential legion of fans. This will be the ultimate test to prove they have the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence that it takes to win an unprecedented $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.
The X Factor is produced by Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America. Simon Cowell, Rob Wade and Siobhan Greene are executive producers for Syco Television. Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Richard Holloway and Andrew Llinares serve as executive producers for FremantleMedia North America.

Nicole Scherzinger (Judge)
[Originally, Scherzinger was cast as the shows co-host along with Steve Jones. British pop singer and X Factor UK alum Cheryl Cole was hired to reprise her role at the judges table. But after only three weeks on the job, it became clear to Simon Cowell and others that Cole wasnt going to work out in the US version. (The scuttlebutt is there was a lack of chemistry between Cole and Paula Abdul)
Cole was fired by FOX, but Cowell offered her her old job on X Factor UK, where she had been more comfortable. But the singer snubbed him; apparently angry over how the situation was handled. Simon wasnt thrilled about it either. "But that's what you have to do when you produce you have to make decisions in the moment, and I take full responsibility for it, said Simon. (source).Scherzinger--who had temorarily filled in for Cheryl Cole once before on the UK show--became the new permanent judge on the US version, leaving the hosting duties soley to Steve Jones.
"I mean I'm not going to lie," Nicole said. "I cried when Simon told me because I felt that no matter where he had me on the show I was going to be of service and do the best that I could."
Nicole Scherzinger was born in Honolulu, HI, and grew up in Louisville, KY. She is a singer, songwriter, actress, performer and the former lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls. Scherzinger was asked to join The Pussycat Dolls after appearing on the TV show Popstars as part of the group Edens Crush. The groups debut album, PCD, went double-platinum in America, sold over 9 million copies worldwide and featured the hit songs Dont Cha, Buttons and Stickwitu.
Following the success of PCD, Scherzinger recorded a series of duets and guest vocal appearances with P. Diddy, 50 Cent, Timbaland and Vittorio. The second Pussycat Dolls album Doll Domination, has sold over 5 million copies to date and contains the hits When I Grow Up and I Hate This Part. In 2009, Scherzinger wrote and recorded an adaptation of A.R. Rahmans Jai Ho (from the film Slumdog Millionaire), which went to No. 1 in 17 countries.
Recently, Scherzinger won the 10th season of Dancing with the Stars and starred in Rent at the Hollywood Bowl. Scherzinger is scheduled to release her debut album Killer Love.
