Point is, critical acclaim or box office are standards for other folks. Entertained for a couple hours = good movie
Too many have been nominated that don't meet the standards of horrible
I wouldn't consider including spoofs like Mars Attacks or Meet the Spartans because we got exactly what the filmmaker intended.
Also out is Ed Wood's oeuvre, as when he was asked when one of his masterpieces would be finished, responded incredulously "You mean there is someone out there waiting to see this?" - his work met his expectations.
Leaves two categories
1. Films which "missed it by that much", but you can;t say why. Taking the genre of retro serial diesel punk, why did Raiders of the Lost Ark have a modest success while Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow not? I don't know, to me both seemed as effective in meeting their makers' intentions, and I am equally happy to watch either on their original terms.
2. Films which failed artistically and were nothing like what was intended (at least I hope not). The Paul Newman classic The Silver Chalice was meant to be a serious epic, not a ludicrous one. Those are for the yuks.
You didn’t miss much. Johnny died of syphilis.
Atook alunda Lana!Atook Lana Zug-Zug!
There can be only one.
Three Ninjas
Surf Ninjas
Side Kicks
Hmmmm, I see a trend....
The actual title was "The Thing with Two Heads" and it was awesome.
They had exactly two special effects to create the man with two heads. One was Ray Milland stood behind Rosie Greer and put his head on his shoulder while they argued. The other was Rosie Greer running around with a rubber head on his shoulder.
Great, great bad movie. And it taught us alot about racism or something.
Ernest Steals Christmas
I liked Deep Impact in addition to Armageddon.
“Hudson Hawk”
“Air America” (OK, not absolutely horrible)
Ohhhh. In that case- Moulon Rouge.
It makes me want to retch just imagining it, yet I cannot look away.
I think I missed that one, but I did see one where there were brains/spinal cords flying around choking people (can’t remember the name) and The Hand.
Lone Wolf McQuade
Invaders from Mars (1986)
It's certainly ripe with side-splitting dialogue. I love the scene where Allen and Weaver have to proceed through the "Chompers". Sigourney says: "Well, screw that!" but her lips clearly form a different epithet - before proceeding to "Whoever wrote this episode should DIE!!" :-)
And then there's this scene:
Commentary from shocked, appalled Crewman #6 (Guy) as these two hit the floor in a writhing mass of tentacles:
OH!! That's just wrong!
It was nice to see Alan Rickman do a non-villain role for a change, too. Doggone it, now I've got to stop at Target on the way home today and pick up a copy.
HOLY CRAP!!! I love that movie!!!
Who doesn’t?
