The United States of America has a combined services military staffed with our best and brightest men and women that is the most powerful on earth - by any quantifiable measure. That military and the men and women serving and having served stood an unbroken line since 1776 and have protected and defended this country against all threats for two hundred and thirty five years. No other country on this earth has that ability, and none have the economic wherewithall to build and maintain those military assets on a scale to match it.
Our CV and CVN battle groups, our nuclear ballistic submarine fleet, an Air Force that can deliver everything from small kenetic payloads within centimeters of their target to nuclear weapons that can take out a city or country, as needed. An Army that can reach out and touch a terrorist in his cave, a Naval Seal Team that makes housecalls to terrorist mansions - a 21st Century military that can and does deliver specialized forms of deserved terror death and destruction to our enemies wherever they may be, on an as-needed basis.
How We, the World, and the world's economies got into this global financial crisis is now secondary to how, on a global basis, to protect assets against collapse. Collapse of individual financial institutions and entire countries' financial and debt structures. Even the ongoing collapse of fiat currencies and society itself, if people in positions of power continue to act only in their self interest and not in the interest of the economies under their control.
If you are wondering why United States government debt instruments continue to go up in price as their cooresponding interest rates drop in the face of a banking and debt crisis in this country, or why the stock market is both historically volitile and not completely crashing just yet, or why gold, oil, silver and other commodities are rising almost parabolic on the charts, you only have to read the first two paragraphs above. There is your answer.
Capital in all forms is flooding into the United States. The money flows this past Summer have been breathtaking in their volume as fear, panic and realization that, from a capital point of view, it is now every euro, pound, yuan or yen for itself. Protection is being saught as quickly as the funds can be transfered.
The "smart" money has done the above math and is moving from seeking a return on the money in the form of interest, to finding a safe haven where the future return of the money itself is at least possible, if not probable. No other country on earth can offer that potential future, because of the above math.
The solutions to the golbal financial crisis envolve all of us. There are many facets to the solution, and it envolves politics, economics, policy and pain. A lot of individuals have already lost money and many more will before this is over. Currencies will collapse and societies will become more chaotic as basic services throughout the world run out of operating cash.
People have died and others will die because of this crisis. Societies will eventually reorder and financial systems will reconstitute. Remember, though, that no matter how bad it gets here in this country, and how bad it gets for you individually - it will be infinitely worse in any other country on earth.
The United States of America and the three hundred plus million free citizens that make up the heart and treasure of this country will survive and eventually prosper, and be the guiding light that leads the world out of this financial darkness. How long it will take and how, exactly it will be accomplished is up to our leaders, and the populace's ability to select the right ones.
It is at that point that it becomes your responsibility to understand the above and choose wisely over the next years, not choosing a leader that promises you something for nothing, but leaders that understand all the above, and display their understanding openly through their record, their actions, and their deeds. A leader that understands the military part of the math, with the character and fortitude to earn the respect due a Commander-in-Chief by troops he or she will command in defence of America and it's people and their economy.
Choose wisely America, the world is depending upon you do to so.
I agree that we can’t save them from the Muslims with our military. That they must do themselves.
However, we must understand how and why we are there. Communism was a large and growing threat after WWII. General George Patton said that we would have to fight them sooner or later so we might as well fight them while we are there and still mobilized for battle. Truman disagreed and Patton died after a strange accident in Europe.
We allowed Russia to stay in Eastern Europe after they agreed to leave after 3 months. They reneged and we formed NATO with Western Europe.
Most of the Eastern Hemisphere was wasted after WWII and we were the biggest kid on the block. We could have taken over the world were we so inclined. We weren’t but we did maintain a large enough military to protect ourselves against the expansionism of the USSR. We did that in Korea and South Vietnam. We have been protecting everybody else ever since and they have grown to expect it. Personally, I think it is cheaper for us to protect them than to allow them to be taken over by the USSR and then have to fight them after that. However, we may still have to do that after the Muslims take over.
Our military is indomitable. But our enemies don’t go that way. They find our soft spots - guilt, our mis-reading of “love your enemies”, lack of resolve, materialism, disinterest and sheer laziness.
They are making major advances on all those fronts.
At the time the European countries maintained their own credible military forces. Now they run out of ammunition trying beat Libya. Why should we take up the slack when they refuse to?
