NEW YORK, - Jewish donors may like Republican U.S. presidential hopeful Mitt Romney but some give to Michele Bachmann, mistakenly thinking she's Jewish, Romney backers say.
Bachmann is Jewish? Not quite. The Minnesota congresswoman is Lutheran.
That detail aside, Jewish donors have told fundraisers for Romney, a Mormon, they'd rather donate to the "Jewish candidate," Bachmann, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
"It's a real problem," a Romney fundraiser said. "We're working very hard in the Jewish community because of Obama's Israel problem. This was surprising."
Romney worked position himself as an alternative to Obama, viewed by some disenchanted Jews as not being a strong-enough supporter of Israel, pushing the message that he is a better friend to Israel.
Romney's campaign did not comment for the Post.
Bachmann enjoys a strong showing among Jewish voters and often discusses her stay on a kibbutz when she was a teenager in 1974, the Post said.
Last year, Bachmann said she was a Christian, "but I consider my heritage Jewish, because it is the foundation, the roots of my faith as a Christian."
Bachmann spokesman Doug Sachtleben told the Post she is doing well in the Jewish community because of "her strong support of the nation of Israel," not because some think she's Jewish.

“Jewish donors have told fundraisers for Romney, a Mormon, they’d rather donate to the “Jewish candidate,” Bachmann, the New York Post reported Tuesday.”
Breaking a stereotype, these Jews here are rather careless with their cash, hayna?
I don’t think so little of Jewish voters.
If they support Bachmann, it’s most probably because she is intelligent, articulate, honest, and good for the country.
If the so not support Romney, it’s because he’s sleazy, slick, smarmy RINO who perped a pre-Obamacare disaster in Massachusetts...and worst of all...he was governor of a state that managed to elect woman killer dead Ted and Barny Frankfurter...and are stupid enough to actually think all this was a good thing.
She’s good for business and if there’s a good stereotype, its that Jews know good business.
Saying what I think about this from any angle would be touching the FreeRepublic’s third rail.
Then should have been:
" 'Jewish' Bachmann hurts 'Mormon' Romney fundraising".
;)
:: The Minnesota congresswoman is Lutheran ::
No she ain’t. She has disavowed her acceptance of the Lutheran Confession of Faith found in the Book of Concord 1580 (UAC).
I think she just moved to a different Protestant church.
This stuff is funny. Maybe Michele should join a Messianic Jew congregation.
I haven’t been following her. When did she do that?
Lutherans are ^not^ “protestants”. We are catholic (small ‘c’ intended)
She has publicly renounced the Christian doctrine found in the Smalkald Articles (BOC158(uac); specifically “The Power and Primacy of the Pope”
lol...this reminds me of the Palm Beach ballots
poor old folks...where are their kids?
man..she is a handsome woman for my age..whew..her husband should say his prayer thanks every night
that only describes how around 20% of Jews usually vote in the United States since the New Deal
and I think everyone of that 20% posts here btw..lol
So do all Protestants and small c catholics.
So do all Protestants and small c catholics.
To paraphrase the historic liturgy: “It is politically correct so to do.”
I am trying to understand your position.
You are a Lutheran and believe in the power and primacy of the Bishop of Rome. Is that correct?
No, he is referring to the historic confessional documents of the Lutheran Church collected in 1580 in the Book of Concord. Subscribing to these documents is what makes someone a Lutheran, by stating publicly that they agree with the teachings contained therein because they are a true and faithful exposition of the teachings of the Bible.
The specific documents he is referring to are the documents which reject the claims of the power and primacy of the Bishop of Rome and identity the Roman Papacy as the antichrist, i.e. some one or institution who sets himself up in the place of Christ in the church. Because the Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is the Vicar of Christ, i.e. is in the place of Christ and has the right to proclaim new doctrines, even if not found in the Bible, and opposed doctrines actually taught in the Bible, the Lutheran confessions in the Book of Concord refer to the Pope as the Anti Christ warned against in the Bible. (Anti being a Greek prefix meaning either against or in the place of)
For decades, Ms. Bachman belonged to a church that accepts the Book of Concord as a confessional document, including its historical assesment of the Papacy, but left it immediately prior to starting her presidential campaign. I have no idea what church, if any, she belongs to now.
