Two observations: 1.) The media had no other story to hype this yer and so far, this was the only hurricane to hit us for a while, it was therefore: news

2.) People went crazy on hearing the news, buying perishable items and soem non perishable items for emergency use such as generators and whatever. This provided a small short term stimulus that is the equivalent of the incometax return check people get and spend: honest spending by consumers but meaningless in terms of economic effect long term

So, Is there somethig we can expect to see out of all this?

YES: QE3

Why, Gosh, the easternhalf of the US just got slammed, did you see the flooding in NYC and that awful earthquake that was so out of the norm on the east coast??

Obama and the dems are going to push these two events to spend more money and raise more taxes for the needy by demanding those wiht means provide their fair share.

Awful. just awful.

The hurricane track was going to affect East Coast coastal cities. That is a goodly portion of the population. We didn’t expect the hurricane to lose this much power. Better be ready than not be.

Because there has not been a major hurricane in a long while, and

Because it gave the MSM/Weather a venue to promote Obama and his perceived handling of the crisis.

So when no damages were reported, the media could credit Obama.

I surfed some of the news channels and weather channel this morning.

The commentaries were nauseating. I made a comment in one of the thread that the media hype-ers were going to run out of adjectives.

One of the funniest was when one newsie commented on the ‘angry’ ocean waves hitting the beach behind were Al Roker was standing.

I have 2 theories..the first ,it was to prevent Obama’s illegal alien uncle’s arrest from being reported.

Second, always, always follow the money!!

Why was it hyped?

Because, the democrats like a crisis, and you already know what they do with a crisis...

Besides, it would give Obama a big chance to be out in front of the cameras every day, for a whole month or more, passing himself off as a caring leader looking out for the victims.

But, curses! They didn’t get the crisis they were hoping to get. That makes it twice in one week they were foiled, first with the tiny earthquake and then with the dud of a hurricane.

The government has to keep the population in fear. Afraid of terrorists. Bad weather. Bird flu. Global warming. If they keep us afraid, the people are easier to control. The news is all propaganda designed with this goal in mind.

Resist the tyrants. I keep waiting for the spark to set of a revolution where the slaves will free themselves and get the boot of the government off of our throats.

Reminds me of how the media hyped the Obama campaign in 2008. Both Irene and Obama turned out be be duds.

First the Earthquake, then the Hurricane, all I know is that if frogs and locust start turning up in Washington I'm killing a lamb and putting on my walking shoes because I'm pretty sure someone is talking to a burning bush about 0bama.

A 24 hour news cycle with nothing else to talk about. Plus they thought it was going to be a big deal. I’m sure that they’re just as disappointed that the hurricane left anything standing as you are.

The media were wetting themselves over worry that this might be Barky’s Katrina. They know he is not much of an executive or a leader in a crisis.

They wanted to hype it to such a ridiculous extent that there would be no local mayor or governor like Ray Nagin or Kathleen Blanco who might screw up and reflect badly on Zero.

Plus a bad hit would give Zero a chance to hand out money from his stash and for the media to slavishly dote on how wonderful is our benevolent philospher-king, the giver of laws and from whom his people receive all blessings.

Is this storm so catastrophic that Fox News should preempt all its programming with storm coverage?

It hit the home turf of much of the national media and so it agitated their gut emotions in a way that tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri and Ringgold, Georgia can't.

In a similar vein, Democratic Underground seemed to be more concerned with a water line breaking in Massachusetts than the West and Middle Tennessee floods occurring at the same time.

I am once again reminded by events, how every recently hyped “global warming” event has had issues with blizzards.
