We have a 12 year old son and I am starting to make a point about waiting until marriage for sex and mention to him the consequences like pregnancy, disease and even the girl’s father coming after him with a shot gun.

I have two teenage sons, and several younger. (They keep moving around, so I lose count.)
At least once a day, I point out to one of the older children (also have a 20-year-old daughter and two in adolescence) that sex outside marriage is wrong and stupid, stupid and wrong. Wrong and stupid, stupid and wrong.
I find that the content of popular music is a useful starting point. “You realize she’s talking about getting drunk and having sex with a stranger. What do you think are some of the potential consequences?” My 13-year-old daughter complains that I’m ruining the music for her, but what’s edifying about, “I’m never going to grow up and commit, but I’d like you to have sex with me whenever I pass through ...”? Good for you.
I think it’s better that a boy has a sister to think of (and a man has a daughter, especially if he never had that sister thing). They sort of take Mom and Gramma and Aunts for granted being older and don’t think of them as “being violated”.

Also make them “think of the children” who didn’t ASK to be put in a bad situation like a love child of teenagers.
