A shortage of massive prey and the invention of the bow and arrow made extreme physical power obsolete. Even today you can find a small percentage of people who are capable of bench pressing 400-500+ pounds(even before steroids in fact) but these people do not have any measurable competitive advantage over us regular guys who max out at 225-275 lb bench press capabilities.

What is NOT a guess is that the same markers indicating some 1-4% of Neanderthal ancestry is in ALL non-African populations, not just “white folks”.

I’ve read claims that H. sapiens sapiens interbred with H. sapiens neaderthalensis, and vice versa. We will probably never know the truth.

If the Neanderthal were close enough genetically to crossbreed with Homo Sapiens, being outnumbered they would disappear in a few generations.

Compare it to dog breeds. If you take 10 corgis and surround them with 100 dachshunds, in a few generations you will have only dachshunds. Granted some of them will have corgi blood in them, but from that point, the further you go, the more dachshund they are.
