A volatile mix of speed, alcohol and road rage claimed the life of an innocent victim Sunday who happened to be driving in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Washington State Patrol says the incident began at about 2 p.m. when a man driving a black Hyundai SUV was involved in a road rage incident on Interstate 405.
Multiple witnesseses said the Hyundai driver began following a driver who he believed had cut him off as he headed south down the freeway.
As the Hyundai driver took the NE 85th Street off-ramp, he was traveling at excessive speed and lost control, careering across the eastbound lanes of NE 85th into the westbound traffic.
At that point, the Hyundai slammed into a gray BMW that was heading west on 85th Street and had not been involved in the earlier road rage incident.
The impact killed the driver of the BMW, who was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
Troopers said the Hyundai driver had been drinking, and alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The driver of the black Hyundai was placed under arrest for investigation of vehicular homicide.
Drinking and driving don’t mix.
I suspected he might do this given his wild lane changing, so I anticipated and avoided hitting him.
The thing is, I drive a F250 Super Duty. Had I rear-ended his little car at that speed, which he was apparently hoping for, he could easily have died.
He was so filled with rage he attempted suicide out of, I guess, spite.
What is road rage? Ive seen the term used to describe to things: 1) A driver who reacts to routine driving situations with violence, and; 2) The reaction to someone driving like a complete a-hole.
Number 1 can be controlled if we all just take a breath and calm down. However, if number 2 continues, well still have these incidents.
“two things”
Do you have any idea why he thought that?

At that point, I was already half in the lane before his plan to box me out came to fruition.
Apparently the lane belonged to him, and I did not realize it.
Heard all the sirens from my house and said a little prayer, but never heard what happened. Reading the article I was hoping that if someone was dead, at least it could have been the drunk.
I imagine he’ll be out driving in 10 years or less.
I wish I understood that particular psychological twitch. It's the same as folks who refuse to be passed.
On the plus side, the next guy he tried that on wouldn't really feel much more than a speed bump.
Sounds like cutting off his own nose to spite his face to me.
It’s amazing to just observe drivers like this. WHY do people think we’re all in a race and that at the end of our lives, we’ll have a score determined by the vehicles WE’VE passed minus the vehicles who’ve passed us??
More and more I find that people just HATE when you get into the lane to the left of them to pass. They just GUN that vehicle to prevent you from ‘winning’. sheesh...

A motorist killed Sunday afternoon near Interstate 405 in Kirkland in a possible case of road rage involving two other vehicles was a tech geek who loved music, photography and his family.
“He’s a fantastic exceptionally brilliant wonderful man,” said Neal Karlinsky, a friend and neighbor of Steve Lacey, of Kirkland. “He loved being a tech geek but he wasn’t a tech geek. He never knew how brilliant he was.” Lacey, 43, a father of two, worked for Google and used to work for Microsoft on its games....
Lacey had just run out from his home for an errand at Costco...He died at the scene.
One great quote I read: “It’d be a better world if we acted like our bodies were strapped to the bumpers.”
More detail needed... do you have skid plates? If not, your oil pan might've gotten wrinkled.
Very sad and a tremendous loss to the tech world.

No Gandalf. People who like to make their
front wheel drive 4 cyl Honda’s look fast
put really good tires and wheels on the
front axle and regular sneakers on the rear.
The rear axle is just a bogie - keeps the
tail end from dragging on the ground. Sort
of like putting slicks and mags on the rear of
your GTO and leaving the front tires and wheels
stock.
