It is unconscionable that extremist groups circulate letters which accuse me of horrific things, saying that I am a traitor, that POWs in Hanoi were tied up and in chains and marched passed me while I spat at them and called them baby killers. These letters also say that when the POWs were brought into the room for a meeting I had with them, we shook hands and they passed me tiny slips of paper on which they had written their social security numbers. Supposedly, this was so that I could bring back proof to the U.S. military that they were alive. The story goes on to say that I handed these slips of paper over to the North Vietnamese guards and, as a result, at least one of the men was tortured to death.
That these stories could be given credence shows how little people know of the realities in North Vietnam prisons at the time. The U.S. government and the POW families didnt need me to tell them who the prisoners were. They had all their names. Moreover, according to even the most hardcore senior officers, torture stopped late in 1969, two and a half years before I got there. And, most importantly, I would never say such things to our servicemen, whom I respect, whether or not I agree with the mission they have been sent to perform, which is not of their choosing.
But these lies have circulated for almost forty years, continually reopening the wound of the Vietnam War and causing pain to families of American servicemen. The lies distort the truth of why I went to North Vietnam and they perpetuate the myth that being anti-war means being anti-soldier.

Geriatric communists blow.
“I would rather she be saved, and see the light”
I would rather she be shaved and see the electric chair.
"I, a socialist, think that we should strive toward a socialist society, all the way to communism." -Jane Fonda, Duke University
She also helped organize FTA (F*ck The Army)in which they would perform skits and encourage soervicemen to desert, and among other things, shoot their Officers. Little known by many Americans today, Donald Sutherland, that c*&%s*cker, was among the celebrities that participated.
Jane Fonda can go F herself....
I could live with that because it is less creepy, and more just.
Jane, your traitorous ways will haunt you until you draw your last breath.
Jane Fonda also helped in the organization of a production group called the F.T.A. (F*** The Army). This group helped to set up coffee houses near military bases where they would perform anti-war derogatory-type sketches for the visiting soldiers. The coffee-house sketches were intended to counterpoint the U.S.O. shows, such as Bob Hope and other U.S.O. sponsored performers whose performances increased morale and gave positive support to American soldiers. Some of the F.T.A. coffee house employees would mingle with the soldiers to help them to "relax and unwind", while encouraging the soldiers to desert. Some soldiers alleged that they were promised jobs and money by the F.T.A. if they deserted. - via 286 posted on 02/11/2004 7:24:22 PM PST by kcvlSure, Jane. Encouraging soldiers to desert knowing they would get prison time is how you "help" them? And the propaganda broadcasts you did accusing them of being war criminals ... what's your explanation for that?
By the way.... the Vietnamese didn't lay off the torture until we started bombing Hanoi. They sure as heck didn't stop toturing because they were feeling peace and love.
“I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that someday we would someday become communists.”
Jane Fonda, 1970, Address to Michigan State University
First of all, "hardcore senior officers?" Nice choice of words by that ignorant slut.
And refuting her "torture stopped" claim by those unnamed hardcore officers we have By John L. Frisbee in Valor en Masse [emphasis added]
Torture was not used primarily to obtain military information, but to break a prisoner's will, force him to betray his comrades, and extort letters or tapes condemning US policy and praising the leniency of his captors. The prisoners were viewed by North Vietnam as a propaganda tool to fan the flames of antiwar sentiment in this country. To some extent that scheme backfired when the barbarism engulfing the prisons became known in 1969. Only then did POW life begin to improve, slowly and with many reversions.
Note too the aim of the dinks in applying the torture. Our brave captives paid dearly for holding out and each bit of propaganda thus obtained had a cost in blood. Jane gave them the same thing for free. Gee, she really is a slut isn't she?
for Tonk
You should have been tried as a traitor and hung, Jane. I read your words back then and know where you stood. The simple fact that you went there is cause enough to have tried you for treason. Your excuses are lame and you’re still pushing the same socialist/communist crap. FU!
What is incredibly, fantastically, wonderful, and makes me feel like dancing, is to learn that it really is bothering her, she sounds frustrated and angry.
She is incredibly wealthy, famous, beloved by the powers that be, and yet, in the twilight of her life she stumbles, and reveals that we are winning.
We haven’t forgotten Benedict Arnold’s Treason and it’s been a lot longer than 40 years.
Nuff said.
Pi$$ off, Jane!
Your own words, spoken from Hanoi prove you are a liar!
-the fact that artists here are translating and performing American plays while US imperialists are bombing their country.Doesn't sound like you had a lot of respect for them!
Whether the photo was as innocent as you claim (I'm not buying it!) is irrelevant. Just the fact that you were traipsing around North Vietnam with enemy soldiers, giving aid and comfort to the enemy and allowing yourself to be used for propaganda purposes is enough to convince me you should have been tried for treason.
I cannot imagine life without him.
In the memory of HW Jewell who flew those missions and put up with your nonsense Jane.... may you rot in Hell.
If I’m remembering the classes I got on racial and ideological, geographical, differences in interrogation, the North Vietnamese were, as you said, not so much interested in military information as they were in getting your mind “right”
When I was a kid, the nightmare scenario (maybe it came from a sci-fi book) was for you to be tortured, and to learn that you had no information that they cared about, and to learn that they knew that already.
