I upgraded both of my Macs to Lion this afternoon.
Time to install and reboot (each): 40 minutes
After reboot:
Took about 30 minutes to upgrade my mail. Could do nothing while that happened.
Once the mail was processed, the system fully started.
Spotlight began reindexing in the background and it took a lot of CPU. Everything was running slow. Mail seemed to be the target of the Spotlight reindex.
Some notables:
Launch pad is great for an old man like me. Looking at those itty bitty icons in the application list was getting harder.
The new scrolling took a minute to get used to. You move your finger up the mouse to get it to scroll down. I adapted quickly.
Spell checking in Safari now. Great for FR posting!
I paid to upgrade my Mac Tower. The upgrade on my MBP was a freebie. I hadn't expected that.
Okay. So now I am off to explore what else is new.
In before the AAA-bunch. I will probably wait to upgrade till this weekend. Bookmarked for any future updates.
Can’t wait to hear all about it. :)
Thanks for pioneering. I do exactly the opposite, so I depend on guys like you to take the arrows for me. :-)
I have many older apps that I don’t believe will run on Lion so I’m seriously looking at Windows emulation as much more valuable than before.
I don’t think of myself as a lion. You might as well though, I have a mighty roar.
Does the new upgrade really need 7GB. I have 4GB
Have to admit I am kind of scared to upgrade my IMAC from Snow leopard to Lion by myself. Was it pretty easy?
Check Software Update, I hear the latest iTunes is 64-bit Cocoa for Lion now. It’s about time.
I’m still waiting to upgrade, maybe next month. I never upgrade any OS as soon as it’s available, not even OS X. I’ve never had one problem upgrading OS X, just general principle.
Like falling off a log. One button install. Fear not.
As to the 7GB, I am not sure. It was never an issue for me.
I saw the requirement of 7GB in the installation requirement. Also what is Lion Server?
Good to hear it went well. I am planing on doing my Mac tomorrow.

I’ll probably upgrade the iMac to Lion about the time iCloud launches. Of course, I’m trying to talk the Mrs. into letting me get the updated MacBook Air (with Lion).
On my About this Mac; it shows everything except it shows 4GB; not 7 GB. No one has ever said that before. Do I have to take this in?
Did you install updates after installing Lion??
I just bought this IMAC in 9/10. I am updated on everything Snow Leopard. However, I am confused about the 7GB requirement. My About this Mac shows 4 GB. They said that was all I needed. I would hate to start a download and wonder why I am getting nowhere because I didn’t know I needed more space. Btw, just happened to catch that 7GB needed before downloading.
See above. It needs 7GB of hard disk space to install. Open a window in Finder and it will show the GB available at the bottom of the window.
I tried!
