Justice may be blind but at least one restaurant owner isn't.

Well at least the jury isn’t hung.

My opinion is correct because its the jury’s opinion.

That statement tells me everything I need to know about you.

They had a plain old vanilla wrapper manslaughter charge available to them ~ it wasn't all Murder in the First.

Here's a woman ~ she has a little kid ~ kid is missing ~ she didn't say anything about that for a full month while she was busy getting tattoos, partying, and so forth.

So, what happened to the kid?

I think you have to hold her seriously accountable for the break in the chain of custody.

I did not watch the trial but was there any evidence that she harmed her child other than her attitude and behavior after her daughter disappeared.

Well, let's see, she was the last one to see the child. She didn't report the child missing - EVER (it was the grandmother who reported it). She partied and got a tattoo after she admittedly knew the child was already missing. She lied repeatedly to parents, friends, police about what happened to the child. She set up a fake back-story about her supposed nanny, going so far as to get a name from an apartment visit card that she could blame for the whole thing.

Oh, and the CHILD IS DEAD, found within a quarter-mile of the mother's home.

The prosecution was going to show the jury the DVD of Casey actually committing the crime, but it was already checked out on Netflix.

This was not the behavior of a woman who feared for her daughter's life or who was distraught over her daughter's accidental death in a swimming pool. This was a woman who knew her daughter was dead and was happy about it. Guilty - case closed.

Both sides had Mock trials before the case. Both Mock Jurys came to the same verdict. Not Guilty.

Yep. Is it reasonable to think a dead little girl, hidden in swamp, killed herself? Or that the mother, who lied to investigators repeatedly, had nothing to do with it? No, it is not reasonable. Maybe some in the jury saw it as a game between the prosecution and the defense. And the defense had more points at the end of the game. Maybe the rest saw it as a reality tv show.

This is the America we live in now. The epistemology is Dancing with the Stars for some and NFL for the others.

Imagine someone wanting to go home to their family after 6 weeks of being sequestered. the HORROR

Indeed! We shouldn't have expected them to do their due dilligence by going over any evidence. Afterall, they'd already been there for such a long time. /s

I was watching when the jurors left the courtroom for their first deliberations, several of them didn't even bother to take their notebooks with them. The judge had have someone gather them up for the jurors.

I really think there a lot of anger because the jury was so quick to come back and they never asked to look over a single piece of testimony or evidence. It really did appear that they were just tired of being there. What a great reason on which to base a verdict...

Oh, and in answer to an earlier question of yours to another poster....I'd love to serve on a jury, they just won't pick me. I called in for an entire month, went in at the beginning and again at the end of that month and still didn't get picked for any of the juries.

The supreme court’s 1895 decision that “jurors need not be informed of their rights” needs to be overturned.

If jurors had a clue of their power to do things like call witnesses and decide what is and isn’t admissible in court, we’d all be better off.

I think you live in fantasy land

You mention another civil war in a Casey Anthony thread, and I live in fantasy land? LOL! Grow up.

That is so untrue under Florida law. They didn’t have to prove exact cause of death, nor a motive, even though I think they did a good job in doing so. The jurors were instructed to that fact as well, but the band wagon jumpers think they know differently and it’s obvious on several levels the jurors didn’t follow instructions, but followed the checkbook.

how did Caylee die and how did she get in the garbage bag in a swamp?

Two excellent questions, ones the prosecution were not able to prove.

Canadians are called “Snow Birds” There’s an entire city down there that shuts down in the Summer. The letter carriers don’t get enough mail to go deliver it due to the absent Canadians. If it weren’t for Florida all Canadians would be mentally ill (rather than just 50% of them eh).

I always thought that the difference between a “Yankee” and a “Damn Yankee” was that the “Yankee” went home, and the “Damn Yankee” stayed.

neither....

I am just an observer of human nature..

..the trial was too long and too convoluted for most people to tolerate. I would speculate that none of the people on this jury was prepared for a trial which would last for 2 months ...even if they were told that the trial would likely last that long.

No I mentioned civil war after someone introduced the yankee vs southerner mantra.

every day I’m more and more convinced we have exactly the government we deserve.

“The interview price will go up substantially now.”

The first thing I thought when I heard the ridiculous verdict and make no mistake, it was ridiculous, was that had a guilty verdict been found the jury would have been interviewed for 15 minutes, and gone on their way. A not guilty verdict gave them much more attention, not to mention potential big bucks. In todays society don’t count that out.
