Although it has not quite recaptured the magic of "The Sopranos," there is no denying that HBO is once again in full stride. With Emmy-winning movies, a panoply of well-done documentaries, successful comedies and dramatic hits both popular "True Blood" and critical "Boardwalk Empire," "Treme" the premium network bursts with so much justified confidence that it took on the perilous realm of fantasy with the well-received "Game of Thrones."
So maybe it's time to tone down the tits.
I write the word knowing it is going to render my editors and readers apoplectic why not use the less crude "breasts?" Because I don't mean breasts. Breasts are what you see on cable during a lovemaking scene or when a character is caught unawares or when, as in the season finale of "Game of Thrones," the last of the Targaryens rises, naked and miraculous, from her husband's funeral pyre with three baby dragons clinging to her.

Forget “tits”..call it “boobns”..that explaons Bill Maher..
Game of thrones is the greatest show I have seen on tv for quite a while. Cant wait for the next season, actually Im looking to get the books but Im not sure whether to read ahead or read each book after I have watched a season.
Boardwalk empire is pretty amazing aswell.
On to the topic of breasts, there is nothing wrong with showing breasts on tv, I mean if its not completely tasteless. In any case those shows are not geared towards younger audiences, and the violence is far more inappropriate for children than any tit can be.
I thought the Sopranos was a unique and exceptional series that other cable shows will be hard pressed to top. Rome was also an exceptional series. Both offered great storytelling and were highly entertaining. First class acting and writing. IMHO, Big Love may not have appealed to some folks, but it's a cult classic for the ages.
Of the more recent series on HBO, it all looks like standard fare. No originality whatsoever.
Seems like the author thought she had a point but, for the life of me, I can’t figure out what it was.
Although, someone who refers to The Sopranos as having “magic” is clueless, in my book.
Boobies?
They show boobies on HBO?
How can I get HBO?
I like to see boobies!
I think there are trends in movies and entertainment. In the later 1960s, breasts, which had been forbidden, were suddenly exposed, and usually in a violent or chaotic context.
Then in the 1970s, there was more relaxed exposure, but the emphasis was on small breasts. The 1980s, far fewer breasts, and by the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s, breasts did not exist. Nor did dresses and skirts, or even styled hair. Women wore pants.
Using TV for comparison, think of the women of the original Star Trek, either in miniskirts or almost see through designer outfits and risque alien costumes, and amazingly styled hair (heck, even the men got to be a lot more daring in outfits and hairstyles.)
Then compare them with the unisexual costumes in Space: 1999 or even Star Trek TNG.
Though Hollywood still abhors them, I would adore seeing TV shows with women wearing Star Trek TOS type fashions and hair.
Breasts come, and breasts go, but they are always there.
Here’s my take, based on what me and my wife went through, I have read the series and she has not.
Since she had not read the series, the sheer number of characters/families/plot-lines was daunting and confusing at times. As she got through the series, it got better, but from my perspective, I was able to enjoy the series more on TV starting with episode 1, since I had the background material that is part of reading the books.
If you’re enjoying the TV series as is, I’d say wait for the season to end, but if it’s confusing or you’re dying to why something is important, but it isn’t explained in the TV series, go ahead and read the books. The books are pretty hefty and can take a while to plow through, so you might be able to keep your reading and watching in sync, if you’d like.
That being said, can you really wait until season 2 starts to know what’s going to happen next? :-)
If you like that check out Skinemax, er, I mean Cinemax.
I could not get into Boardwalk Empire as it was just darn slow but Game of Thrones is really good. The dude (Jason Momoa) who played Khal Drogo will play the new Conan the Barbarian.
We talkin about Skinamax or HBO?
That scene was definitely over-gratuitous, and would have been even moreso, if not for some well-placed (or poorly-placed, depending on your viewpoint) furniture and scenery.
The interesting thing about the monologue is that when Littlefingers is instructing on the technique to be a proper prostitute, he is actually foreshadowing his own actions later on.
Even the fine finale included a young nude woman washing her particulars while her elderly john monologued about the nature of kings.
Well, I'm glad she used the word "particulars".
There was a lot of exposition (generally once per episode) occurring while someone was visiting prostitutes.
I like boobs and I like premium cable, sue me if you disagree.
Am I on DU?
I especially like the “Real Sex” series, “The G-String Divas” series, “The Girls of the Bunny Ranch,” series, that series that they did on adult entertainment with Jenna Jamison, the Katie Morgan interview where they interview this hot blonde in the news, and the porn they all show on late night...
That should be “in the nude.”
