My wife and I went to see this movie... I thought it was quite good, and predict it will do better than these opening figures would indicate. Word of mouth will keep it going for awhile.

“Republican comes in the dictionary just after reptile and just above repugnant.”

Julia Roberts

“We’ve elected a wise, calm man. I think the President of the United States is doing a spectacular job in the face of a brand of insanity that doesn’t make any sense to me as an American.”

Tom Hanks

10-4 I went to this movie because of the trailer. In this day of sick movies what a refreshing story. It also presents what people are doing in this economy. I am amazed I liked it so much. We both liked it. I woke up thinking if they just made more movies like this one. I recommended it. Let’s get the word of mouth going. Because we can maybe get more decent movies. Of course maybe I am dreaming.

We went to see it last night. The movie made no logical sense at all. Fired for having no college? No indication that Hanks and Roberts were attracted to each other before her drunken groping? Why would Professor Roberts hook up with a poor middle aged student after dumping her porno addicted husband? And what was up with the scooter girl and the scooter gang?

Other than a good cast - other than the repulsive Roberts - wandering around, the movie was disaster.

Why would a freeper support Tom Hanks?

He has berated and demeaned everyone here.

About all the little guy’s like us can do is vote with our dollars. So we may miss out on a little entertainment. I hope everyone who paid $10+ dollars to see this movie are happy that most of that money goes to destroy America.

I wondered about that. I'd rather have word of mouth than a critic's opinion anyday.

What is it about?

Agreed. We went because there was nothing better to see and I was expecting tripe from the previews. I do not like either Roberts or Hanks.

However, it was a delightful surprise. It's a low-key, old-fashioned comedy-romance with excellent character development and the kind of writing we used to get with good movies. A bit of Tom Hanks from the old days too when he was actually funny.

I really really liked it.

'Larry Crowne'

"Larry is a recently divorced and newly unemployed guy who enrolls in college to improve his future job chances; he'd gone into the navy in his youth, instead of school.

He pretty much focuses on Larry getting hipper and becoming attracted to his speech-class teacher, played by Julia Roberts.

She's in loosey-goosey form, with a drunk scene and a few put-downs mostly directed at her shiftless husband.

Larry has mildly happy experiences: front-lawn conversations with yard-sale neighbors, budding friendship with a cute young Gen Y'er and her boyfriend, and teacher's pet status with his econ prof.

For the most part, though, Tom Hanks makes Larry Crowne as though conducting an experiment in how few serious conflicts you can put into a movie and still have it be a movie."

******

This review is from Amazon.com. I did not see the movie.
