Prince Albert of Monaco has been forced to issue a public statement after claims that his fiancée tried to leave him days before their wedding after learning of his third illegitimate child.
The royal family dismissed reports that Charlene Wittstock had tried to flee to South Africa, where she grew up.
The claims appear to have originated in the French news magazine L'Express.
In an article headlined Albert-Charlene: Marriage in Peril and published on its website, the magazine claimed Miss Wittstock, a former Olympic swimmer, had been upset to hear a new revelation about her future husband.
A lawyer for Prince Albert vigorously denied the claims, described the story as madness and added: Everything is false.
The allegations emerged just two days before the three-day celebrations for the wedding are to start. They are expected to cost around £50million.
The guest list includes Naomi Campbell, the model, the businessman Philip Green, Richard Branson, the entrepreneur, and Giorgio Armani, the fashion designer.
Dozens of royal guests will also attend, including the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
A statement from the palace said: The Prince's Palace firmly denies the allegations.
These rumours, spread a few days before the wedding ceremonies of His Serene Highness Prince Albert and Miss Charlene Wittstock, have only one purpose - to seriously damage the Sovereign's image and by consequence that of Miss Wittstock and to cause serious prejudice to a happy event.
Prince Albert's lawyer, Thierry Lacoste, confirmed he would be taking legal action against the French publication and added: I was with the Prince and Charlene Wittstock in Paris three days ago, and I can promise you that all is well.

My Daddy used that too, and mixed it with Cherry Blend. I LOVED the aroma when he smoked his pipe!
This is not a religion thread. Many FReepers are Roman Catholics who take offense at the posting of the picture of these children on a thread about the wedding in Monaco. I am a Christian and find it offensive as well. Please respect the beliefs of others and keep your religious screeds on threads concerning religion.
OMG!!
The view from my bicycle ride from Menton....
How did you get my old photos?
Hmmm. Peter, James and John, who were with Jesus at His Transfiguration, and saw him with Elijah and Moses, might have a bit of a disagreement with you. God can use signs of all kinds to call us to spiritual awakening.
Thanks, well said!
I suspect you will not convince many Roman Catholics when you spew such burning scorn, let alone convert them.
Why don't you save that for the truly evil religion of Islam.
Hey, Pal-neither are you.
I’m running a thread about the royal wedding in Monaco and some sicko posts a picture of the three little children who saw a vision of the Virgin Mary at Fatima, responding to a post about Albert’s three illigitimate children. It us an image sacred to many Christians, and I ask that other posters not be insensitive & respect that.
And stick to the topic. FR has enough religion topics for that type of thing fir those who are interested
Thanks for posting the magnificent image if the artwork.
“Your sanctimonious pontification “
Wonderful play on words! Well said.
Once is happenstance; twice is coincidence; three times is a pattern
LOL! Too funny!
....not to get involved in the argument, but what’s a Jack Chick tract?
I’m so glad America does not have royalty in places of power.
“...only one purpose - to seriously damage the Sovereign’s image and by consequence that of Miss Wittstock and to cause serious prejudice to a happy event.
Very poor choice of words, considering “happy event” usually refers to the birth of a child!
Yet they deny the ENTIRE story? Freudian slip or just a coincidence?
Thanks. I had other words but thought better...
To 22 - No, she looks athletic.
“pontificate” as a reply to an anti-Catholic post....,,priceless!
Those aren’t mutually exclusive. I met a very athletic girl once, but she was simply stunning and wouldn’t be taken for masculine.
