The management for rock and roll star Tom Petty didn't waste any time after Bachmann's campaign launch yesterday to send a cease-and-desist letter, demanding that she never use his song "American Girl" at campaign events again. These requests are not uncommon for Republican candidates, and it's one of the things that genuinely sucks for them. They can never use the easygoing, overplayed songs that they enjoy on FM radio, and they learn that their favorite artists despise them. Democrats' problem, on the other hand, is that they have to feign gratitude to all the musicians who write bad songs for them, kind of like accepting the annual box of dirt-flavored hard taffy that grandmother gives you on birthdays.

Never heard of the schmuck. And absolutely no problem keeping anything he wrote from crossing my air waves. She ought to charge him for all the advertising, yeah that’s the ticket, send him a freeking invoice for all the air time she’s given him.
Good riddance! His voice was awful....at least to me!

“ZZ Top”
...Legs :-)?
Agreed.
I always thought he was highly overrated. His voice is whiny, nasal and grates on my nerves.
Indeed it does.
All musicians steal from each other. That’s because there are only 9 songs. Total.
I’ve never understood how anyone could think this ugly guy is talented. Nor can I understand how he got a record deal.
Springsteen did this with Reagan over "Born in the USA", even though it's a a very anti-American tune. Not sure why the Reagan campaign didn't pick up on that. Mellencamp has also done this with republican candidates over politics. David Byrne of the Talking heads did this, but he stated that he doesn't want his music associated with ANY politics. I can actually respect that stance. When Michael Jackson bought the Beatles catalogue, he began to allow usage in TV commercials. Paul McCartney said it "bothered him heaps". But he didn't have standing since he sold the rights.
Any song Rush plays on the radio the writer gets paid. Typcically the singer only gets money off record/cd sales. At least that they way it used to be.
It makes one wonder how these washed up rockers find out about their songs being used for conservative canidates. I can just imagine that the liberal media and their sycophant spies attend conservative ralleys just to report to liberal idiots like Tom petty, or Heart.
Great to see Iced Earth mentioned - I have a CD of theirs that I bought in, uh, 2001 or so.
Krista Branch, maybe? Lt. Dan Band? :)
Screw you Tom Petty.... In fact that is pretty damn “petty” of you.
Oh and you’re butt ugly to boot!
This happens every election. Entertainers refusing to allow conservative politicians to use their music. Real heroes. How Tom Petty ever became a “rock star” is waaaay beyond my understanding. Maybe the same way Bob Dylan did.
Wonder if Ed Rollins picked this song?
“Not my intent to malign him, as I own some of his work, and think well of it. But..”
“BUT...”
I’ve always thought Tom Petty sucked and have never spent one cent on him or his crappy “music”.
I must have a sixth sense about some of the lefty “entertainers” and spending money on their trash, BEFORE they inevitably come forth, and show their true color is leftwing HATE.
No ifs, ands or “BUTS”..
The South’s Gonna Do it Again Charlie Daniels Band - That will make the libs head ache with the heat of a thousand suns.
