I was just watching the original "True Grit" starring John Wayne. Yes, he deserved his Oscar for the role of Rooster Cogburn but opposite him was someone who played his part horribly. I am talking about Glenn Campbell as the Texas Ranger. Sheesh! Talk about stilted delivery. Really bad. Another example of bad acting was also in a John Wayne movie---"The Alamo." It was Frankie Avalon as Smitty who was supposed to be a young Tennessee frontiersman. I like Frankie Avalon in the beach flicks but, let's face it, he was waaay too urban to be believable in the role of Smitty. Whenever I see "The Alamo," it is impossible to forget that this is just a movie because of Frankie Avalon's completely unconvincing acting.
There are many other major movies with examples of really horrible acting. I cited a couple of such examples, so please list yours.
William Shatner & Friends in anything?!
FINALLY. A SPECIFIC example. And you are correct. I've read up on Louis XIV and DeCrapio doesn't even come anywhere close to portraying him with even the slightest bit of authenticity.
Stallone in anything, he should have stuck with blue movies.
Elvis Presley almost got Glen Campbell’s part in True Grit. Colonel Tom Parker wanted top billing over John Wayne. The producers sain no way. So we got Glen Campbell instead. Also, John Wayne wanted Karen Caprpenter in Kim Darby’s role. Don’t know why that didn’t work out.
Andie McDowell in anything she was cast in.
Glenn Campbell absolutely ruined True Grit, without doubt the worst performance I ever watched. For Women actors, Winds of War Ali McGraw. Destroyed the whole thing she was so bad.
Now If I had a pick of one more woman I would pick Sondra Locke.
She must have been hell on wheels in bed for Clint Eastwood to have had her suck in so many movies he made. She was awful, and then had the nerve to say Eastwood ruined her career, If not for Eastwood her career would have been working in a Las Vegas Whorehouse.
She had only just begun?
Speaking of John Wayne, I cringe at his performance in The Longest Day.
Conan was an Olivier-level performance compared to Arnold’s debut in the jaw-droppingly dreadful Hercules in New York (where the newcomer starred as “Arnold Stang”). Available on Netflix streaming if you want a truly world-class example of all around bad cinema.
Lesley Ann Warren in anything she was in especially Mission Impossible.
Because she objected to the sumptuous lunch breaks during filming?
Jeremy Irons in anything.
All those mentioned are but amateurs compared to Tanya Roberts in “Sheena”. Even her great naked body could not make up for it.
They could have hired any attractive girl out of a high school drama class and got better acting.
I believe it was breakfast she was worried about. She thought the name of the movie was True Grits.
Ben Affleck in pretty much anything, but especially “Pearl Harbor”.
Harrison Ford in anything except for ‘Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars”. Terrible in dramatic roles like “The Fugitive”, “Presumed Innocent”.
I forgot that one! Twins with Devito was a mess.
Archie Bunker as one of the assassins of Julius Caesar in “Cleopatra.”
Jennifer Aniston. She is mind-numbingly awful in anything she has done since “Friends.” Basically, her entire acting toolkit consists of playing with her hair.
