Ang Lee's "Ride with the Devil" (1999) a pretty decent Civil War flick. Same goes for Kevin Costner's "Open Range" (2003) also a good western.

Just two off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of more.

Two excellent movies. And both are little known but really well crafted films.
Another movie is called “the Hill” with Sean connery.It is set in a British penal camp durning WW2. Check that out.

I also liked Ride with the Devil, but I prefer the novel it was based on entitled Woe to Live On by Daniel Woodrell.
