Salton Sea, truly underrated.

Red Cliff, directed by John Woo. The most expensive movie ever made in China. There's a 2 1/2 hour theatrical version available on Netflix. Then there's the 5 hour international version available in Blu-Ray. Fantastic film! My wife, who usually doesn't care much for subtitled foreign movies, was completely mesmerized.
Also, if you like samurai movies, Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins. Available on DVD sometime in July. Uncut version was on Amazon.

Cannery Row a 1982 film directed by David S. Ward. It stars Nick Nolte and Debra Winger adapted from John Steinbeck's novels Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday.
For years it was not available either on tape or DVD. Recently found it on DVD. One of my favorite movies of all times and an excellent light-hearted take on Steinbeck. For me it was pure entertainment.

“The Straight Story.” Starring Sissy Spacek and Richard Farnsworth with a cameo by Harry Dean Stanton, it was Richard Farnsworth’s last film.
This entire little film is wonderful and the final scene will choke up anyone with a beloved but seldom seen brother.

Yes, I know, I don’t agree with his politics or attempts at international diplomacy either, but I do enjoy his acting.

President's Analyst - 1967 with James Coburn.
Funny, clever and captures the insanity & culture of the late 60's as well as being a bit prophetic.

I Am David (2003).Summary from IMDB: David, a 12-year-old, escapes from a Communist concentration camp with little more than a compass, a sealed letter, a loaf of bread, and instructions to carry the letter to Copenhagen, Denmark. David is thrust into the free world for the first time in his young life as he travels across Europe. His spiritual voyage of discovery, where David slowly loses his instinctive mistrust of humanity and begins to smile, share, trust and ultimately, love, addresses the cruelties, politics, and suffering of warfare while celebrating the resilience of youth and the unbreakable spirit of a child.
