Among other things, this caught my eye and I added to the site. There is a warning there that is as fresh in 1955 as it is today.

WELCOME to FReerepublic
I needed that this morning! Thanks!
As a kid, Skelton’s show was one of the treats of the week. Notice how he ended every show with Good night, and God Bless. I wonder how the Liberal TV execs would respond to that today.
This should be required viewing in everyu elementary school in the country.
So many learn the pledge-—just the words —not the meaning.
Athesists who don’t like the words “
Under God” can skip that partif they like.
In fact if it were up to me (And it’s not) any illegal caught who could not , or would not ,recite it should be shipped out immediately if not sooner.
Thank You. I will share that with my 9-year old son tonight. I’ve heard about this video but never seen it myself.
GREAT video!

Red Skelton was born in 1913. Viewing he went to the 7th grade, that would put this time period he is talking about from 1919 to 1926. During his Teachers life, there would have been at least 3 states added to the union. He was not talking about Reds Skeltons time on earth but his teachers. That means there were 3 states added during that time period.
During those days, the “Liberals” and even their conservative friends narrowly missed prison. Hollywood and New York were being very careful. It’s surprising that Red even went that far.
You are correct on one point. This clip was done in 1969. But the time period it is addressing is 1923 where 3 states would have been added during the teachers life. The State count then would have been 46.
It appears that the young writers didn’t account for that. Here is the list of states added to the Union during the Teachers Lifespan.

The 2 would have been added during Reds lifetime, 1913 on.

The Writers weren’t historians but the bit is as much important today as it was then.
Thinking about it, in 1955, no entertainer would have dared to air something like that.
