JERUSALEM (AFP) – A Jerusalem rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a dog it suspects is the reincarnation of a secular lawyer who insulted the court's judges 20 years ago, Ynet website reported Friday.

According to Ynet, the large dog made its way into the Monetary Affairs Court in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighbourhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem, frightening judges and plaintiffs.

Despite attempts to drive the dog out of the court, the hound refused to leave the premises.

One of the sitting judges then recalled a curse the court had passed down upon a secular lawyer who had insulted the judges two decades previously.

All dogs are guilty of something significant that they haven’t been busted for. Besides, what’s wrong with stoning dogs?

Whoa! For those who are comparing Israel to arabs, etc. The link in post #4 is to a screen capture of a retraction printed in another leading Israeli daily, saying that they got the story wrong and no such thing happened. The daily, the Ma’ariv, is very liberal and anti-religious so you can be sure they wouldn’t retract unless there was a darn good reason to do so. The last line of the item includes an apology for any anguish they caused the Rabbinic Court.

It’s in Hebrew.

You are right to have reservations. Ynet news is usually a credible source, but it is a bit tabloid, and with the secular view. Generally speaking, whenever I see a story on their site about the Orthodox, I get ready to laugh, and I say to myself - what have they done NOW?

A typical instance, is that of a Rabbi who preached that the reason why the earthquake struck Japan, was because the Japanese had imprisoned some Hassidic youths who were caught drug trafficking. Hmmmm ...

But this story is without any confirmation. It is all hearsay testimony, and I don't believe it.

The whole story was made up. Complete fiction. Shame on the press for printing it. A complete retraction was issued.
