In a few years or maybe even now, one could come up with a list of comparable cable shows. R. Lee Ermey would definitely have a place on the list.
Over time, there will eventually be more noteworthy cable than network shows. But they won't have had the same mass audience, though we'd be better off if they did.
I love to listen to Dragnet radio (http://www.archive.org/details/Dragnet_OTR). Not only is it conservative, but they didn’t mess around with 20 yrs on death row back then.
If someone got the death sentence, the narrator always says, ‘X was executed...’ Yeah. No sense in handing down the penalty if you aren’t going to carry it through.
Another interesting aspect is how they treated young people. If you were wrong, they were going to nail you, but if they saw a reason or if you needed help, they helped. I’m not sure police would do the same thing today.
No Firefly?
More currently, Chicago Code and Bluebloods.
I love Dragnet for its political incorrectness. Jack Webb chain smoking and shaking his cig in the perps face cracks me up every time
Everyone on that show was far left or gay or both. Ever notice the scarcity of married couples on the show.
Some good shows on the list, though. And, oddly enough, I just watched an episode of Dragnet a couple hours ago on Retro TV out of CT. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, my DVR will not allow me to pause or record the channel. So if I'm busy at 8pm, I can't watch the A-Team.
Funny thing about Sawyer, I wonder when they made him a Republican, if they did it because he was a con man (and an excellent one at that) without figuring on him being a fan favorite and doing all sorts of penance on the show.
Hmmm, come to think of it...
The ones they did show were either very poor or bickering all the time.
Yeah, I never trusted Floyd and Howard Sprague was way too neat to be hetero! ;-)
He asked the women in the audience what makes them mad about their husbands....one woman yelled out HE SNORES ALL NIGHT and made the sound of snoring...
Sinbad said: thats because all day long you suck the life out of him and he is just trying to get some back in with those deep snores....Cracked me up...single men don't snore....
Also asked the men what bothered them about their wives....funny stuff in his routine..
I remember the Palin dig and thought it was funny, it was about shooting something or other....the remark was....who do you think you are Sarah Palin.....it was a hoot to me...I guess its different strokes for different folks. I am more conservative than Rush Limbaugh....took a test once and I am Jesse Helms....1 point more conservative than Limbaugh....and I loved Jesse Helms. the conservative the left hated more than Palin and for decades..he kept getting reelected...:O)
I remember the first time I saw the opening for that show, wasn’t expecting an older guy.
On this point I'd like to add that I think 30 Rock's Jack Donaghy is one of the most entertaining and well-written conservative characters on television, easily stealing every scene he's in. Of course, the actor who plays Donaghy is Alec Baldwin, a major Hollywood lib.
Though I've got to give Baldwin credit for playing Donaghy as the straight man on the show and not as a buffoon.
How about The Wonder Years?
Reruns of “The Unit”
That’s because Dick Cheney is a despicable traitor who intentionally stood down while the missile was incoming to the Pentagon on 9-11. Look at Norman Mineta 9-11 testimony on YouTube regarding this.9-11 was an inside job and Cheney was a ring leader. Jericho unwittingly had it right.
