I don’t care how much he brags, or brags on himself. He knows what he is doing, which is preserving Egypt’s amazing history. Hawass knows that the more people become enthusiastic about saving these treasures, the greater chance there is of saving them.

He’s done a fantastic job during this revolution. As far as I can tell, he’s earned the power he’s got. Leave in in a position of saving this heritage; who else have they got that can do as effective a job of mobilizing public interest all around the world?

What a silly question. Unless you know all the high level staff in that department, you can't answer the question. I do know from experience that there are very few jobs that only one individual is capable of succeeding at. If Abdul Abulbul Amir works as an assistant to that idiot and he can step in and do as good or better a job without grating on the nerves documentary viewers around the globe, then so be it. Frankly you don't need the director for a job like that anyway, just an articulate and informed spokesperson.

Hawass is a pompous wind bag of an ass but has done a great job of preserving those treasure.
Unfortunately he he may really have a challenge before him, if the Muslim Brotherhood does takes power. If the opinion polls I have seen are correct, they will its only a manner of time. the MB has made past statements that they will destroy all that “history” since its un-Islamic.
To the Islamic fundamentalist there is no history before Muhammad! Example, Amr writes to Omar for instructions, and Omar replies: “If those books are in agreement with the Quran, we have no need of them; and if these are opposed to the Quran, destroy them”. (Yes Julius Caesar's blind date with Cleopatra did do a number on the library as did Bishop Theophilus!)
