This is just, of course, a prediction on my part but here's why:
1. As a former governor, he has executive experience and, from what I understand, he was a pretty good governor. After 4 years of Obozo's incompetence, the American people are longing for a competent administrator.
2. Unlike Romney, who still refuses to disavow Romneycare, Pawlenty came out of the gate admitting he was wrong on Cap and Trade. That was a smart move, and it takes takes that monkey off his back. And two other competing governors, Daniels and Huck, are out of the race.
3. Unlike Palin and Newt, Pawlenty has an uncontroversial past (as far as I know) and doesn't appear to have any significant issues from his past that the rabid lame-stream media could use against him.
4. He's not AS conservative as many of us would like but, on the other hand, he won't have any problems getting the Independent voters and as we all know, without them, we can't win.
Freepers who threaten to hold their breath and turn blue until the 2nd coming of Reagan aside...... I'll take someone who I agree with 90% of the time, over someone who I disagree with 100% of the time.
And, I'd add that if FR was around in the early 80s, plenty of FReepers wouldn't have liked Reagan, either. "He's Hollywood Elite" "Out of Touch" "Not getting rid of abortion/taxes/spending/unemployment/whatever fast enough" Or pick another commonly held FR belief.
Pawlenty would be an OK choice. Maybe not the best, but eminently better than what we've currently got.
For whatever reason, I got this sick feeling that the northeast/New England RINO establishment seeks to use Mitt Romney as nothing more than a place holder for the Bush family. And its too bad, because like George W. Bush, I genuinely like the guy and think he might make some contribution on a cabinet level position like Secretary of Commerce. But keep him as far away from health care (and the presidency) as possible. He just doesn't get it here any more than George W. Bush got it on secure borders.
It might have helped if Fred would have really wanted to win.
This is a brand new time. A time for Palin
Cain
West
or Bachmann (or combination thereof).
Wow, what a comment.
You know i don’t agree with everyone on here, but I do not recall ever saying something as ghetto as you are smoking crack ha ha ha

One with those traits won. How many people since 1900 had those traits and didn't win? I'm guessing a whole lot more than one.
Those four traits don't necessarily make a Ronald Reagan. Unlike the others you have mentioned, Reagan had an incredibly likable personality which made it hard for even his enemies to personally dislike him and which made a lot of people who would have otherwise voted against him, vote for him. Reagan was a popular governor of a giant state which could provide a large percentage of the necessary electoral votes for victory. Reagan was the undisputed leader of the conservative movement. The dynamics of 1980 are a lot different than the dynamics of 2012 which means that those traits wouldn't guarantee a victory (although personally, I could easily vote for both Palin and Kempthorne).
Making points 2 and 4 fit Mitt Romney is a real stretch. I know very few conservatives who would claim him. Michigan and Massachusetts (his two strongest claims to a home state) are hardly western states.
Wow a guy that makes Juan McCain look exciting. Real winner there.
He’s not off my “too stupid to vote for” list. Supporting cap and trade/anthropogenic global warming is a breach of fundamental principles.
On this conservative site, we need to support conservatives. The others can take care of themselves.
Correct. Think of the movie Braveheart, with William Wallace as a true Warrior. We need that mindset to defeat the left and RINOs politically.
Does anyone think Tim will be a Warrior for limited government? LOL. He is a weak man who has no idea the dangers our Republic faces.
Agree. I wish someone would ask Tim if he would advocate FIRING every bureaucrat hired in support of Obomacare. He would mostly likely give a weaselly political answer. OTOH Sarah would instinctively say YES.
Tim doesn't look at government as inherently evil. Sarah knows the evil of government.
No, that will last until he wraps up the nomination. McCain was the poster boy for the NYT and WaPo until he had the votes. Heck, they didn't even wait until the convention. They ran the presses over him the Wednesday after Super Tuesday.
I had a little faith. That is what turned me into a realist.
Would that include Palin also, since she has been McCain's #1 supporter over the past three years, giving more pro-McCain speeches than anyone in America?
Not a Pawlenty fan by any means, but keep in mind that Pawlenty has been governor in a state for 8 years that has the Star Tribune (otherwise known as “The Red Star”) as its primary newspaper. This is a newspaper that published fraudulent allegations against a GOP gubernatorial candidate in 1990, forcing him from the race and allowing a RINO to win the race. If there was something to dig up on him, it would have been done by now.
No, I won’t vote for her. She’s pro-choice for states on abortion, exactly like Gerald R. Ford and John McCain. She supports the sovereignty-destroying Law of the Sea Treaty. She supports the education establishment which is destroying the minds and souls of our young people. She’s a judicial supremacist. And her stated positions on immigration and amnesty have been identical to McCain’s. That’s just for starters.

The word “conservative” is relative. Romney is more conservative than Sen. McCain, Sen. Kirk, and ex-Mayor Guiliani. A March survey said that 68% of conservatives think that he’s conservative. I don’t support him. I’m only quoting other conservatives.
Remember Eternal Vigilance runs a third party, and will not vote for a Republican for president.
