Is The End Nigh? We'll Know Soon Enough (World to end May 21)
NPR ^ | May 7, 2011 | Barbara Bradley Hagerty

Posted on 05/07/2011 9:27:55 PM PDT by tlb

May 21, "starting in the Pacific Rim at around the 6 p.m. local time hour, in each time zone, there will be a great earthquake,". The true Christian believers will be "raptured": They'll fly upward to heaven.

"and on top of all that, there's no more salvation at that point. 153 days later that the entire universe and planet Earth will be destroyed."

"I no longer think about 401(k)s and retirement," he says. "I'm just a lot less stressed, and in a way I'm more carefree."

Brown is married with several young children, and none of them shares his beliefs. It's caused a rift with his wife — but he says that, too, was predicted in the Bible.

But it appears that many became believers in 2009 after turning on Family Radio, a Christian network. Camping's predictions have inspired other groups to rally behind the May 21 date. People have quit their jobs and left their families to get the message out.

"Knowing the date of the end of the world changes all your future plans," says Adrienne Martinez.

She thought she'd go to medical school, until she began tuning in to Family Radio. She and her husband decided they wanted to spend their remaining time with their infant daughter.

"Why are we going to work for more money? "

"We budgeted everything so that, on May 21, we won't have anything left," Adrienne adds.

I've asked a dozen of Camping's followers the same question. Everyone said even entertaining the possibility that May 21 would come and go without event is an offense to God. They all hope they'll be raptured.

"If I'm here on May 22, and I wake up, I'm going to be in hell," says Brown

On the other hand, he will presumably have lots of company.

"The secret here, I think, is that prophecy in the Bible can be fulfilled more than once. God often gives us a glimpse and then the full picture. I see the point of preterism, but..."

"....Dispensationalists (those who adhere to the standard "Left Behind" view) see in this beast a dual fulfillment part ancient Rome, but part fulfillment by an Antichrist figure in our future. But can this really be justified? If the whole of Daniel's words finds fulfillment in 70 AD, secondary fulfillments become possible, of course, but essentially superfluous in context.

"Replacement theology is a lie."

I agree. As I just previously stated, it's a term Dispensationalists made up out of whole cloth.

The placing of the nation of Israel into the place rightfully occupied by Jesus Christ as the central figure of prophecy and eschatology is another example of pop-dispensationalism’s own brand of replacement theology.

Good Information Matchett-PI, I do disagree however. My style on FR is more my own experience and convictions. such as they are. I used to agree with you until 1985. Up until about a week ago I used to say IMHO replacement theology is a lie. Just yesterday the Holy Spirit had me drop the IMHO.

"Just yesterday the Holy Spirit had me drop the IMHO."

Well, now. I guess that settles it. Who would dare disagree with the "Holy Spirit". /s

Feel free, you can disagree with me on FR, As I can with you. I was talking about my personal conviction. It is sort of a being mode I am currently in. Gagdad Bob is an expert on the being mode. It does change as I grow in faith. Like I would not say IMHO Our Lord Jesus Christ is everything. I would say Our Lord Jesus Christ is everything. I am convinced of this. BTW I did see the /s

"I would not say IMHO Our Lord Jesus Christ is everything. I would say Our Lord Jesus Christ is everything"

Harold Camping would no doubt say the same. Want to bet that he would also claim that he came up with his latest "prophecy" because the Holy Spirit "told him" where he could find the Scriptures to back up his beliefs?

I am sure he would. I would guess Israel does not come into the picture much however since, in my opinion, he has been fooled by the replacement theology lie.

Now can you, Matchett-PI, say, and I would like you to type it out for me:

Our Lord Jesus Christ is everything.

as a statement of your personal conviction?

I already did.

You must have missed it. (Or ignored it)

I saw it and told you I disagreed with it. The post, especially the conclusion, to me was a product of common sense.

Sort of like what is happening today with the Obama planned destruction of Israel. Replacement theology would say it is no big deal. It is common sense. Why not just move the Jews to Wyoming or something and solve all the mid east problems.

Just to be clear my convictions are these and in this order:

1) My Lord Jesus Christ is everything.

2) replacement theology is a lie.

From Rapture Ready

Israel’s enemies will never recognize Israel as the legitimate owner of the vast land God gave that people. The hatred is satanic, and will continue right up until the Lord Himself puts an end to the hatred. Sadly, most of the church of Jesus Christ–those who are born again according to John 3: 3—also don’t recognize Israel as the legitimate owner of that land, the land God calls His own.

Replacement theology runs rampant among the pulpits and pews in America, either tacitly or outrightly declaring that the church has replaced Israel in God’s prophetic plans.

Nothing could be farther from truth found in God’s Word. The very fact that Israel is recognized only in the most hateful way by the world and is front and center of controversy in that region many term the “Holy Land” should alert the Bible-believing child of God that recognizing Israel at this late hour is all-important. That nation is the key to where this generation stands upon God’s prophetic timeline.

Israel is the clear signal that Christ’s shout, “Come up hither,” must be very near indeed.

Matthew 24 does not fit both 70 AD and the end times.

First of all, and I'll give only one or two examples of why, with the exception of the destruction of Jerusalem which was fulfilled in 70 AD, the events detailed in Matthew 24 have never been fulfilled but will be in the future.

In verse 15, it says the period of intense persecution of Jews will begin when "the abomination of desolation," spoken of by Daniel, is seen "standing in the holy place." We have no historical record of such an event taking place in 70 A.D. Unlike Antiochus Epiphanes, who desecrated the Temple's holy place in 168 B.C. by erecting within it an altar to Zeus, Titus took no such action in 70 A.D. before he destroyed the city and the Temple.

Jesus says that the period of "great tribulation" (verse 21) that He is talking about will be so severe that all life will cease unless the period is cut short.

We live in the only generation in history when these words could be literally fulfilled. There was no possibility in 70 A.D. that the siege of Jerusalem would lead to the extinction of all life. But that is a very real threat today due to the development and deployment of nuclear weapons.

In verses Jesus says that all the things He has spoken of concerning the Tribulation will be fulfilled during the generation that sees the "fig tree" reblossom. Here is the key to the timing of the prophecy's fulfillment.

What is the "fig tree"? What happened the day before? Jesus had put a curse on a barren fig tree (Matthew 21:18-19), causing it to wither. It was a prophetic sign that God would set the Jewish nation aside because of their spiritual barrenness — that is, their refusal to accept Jesus as their Messiah. The fig tree is a symbol of the nation of Israel (Hosea 9:10; Jeremiah 24:1-10; Joel 1:7; Luke 13:6-9).

Now, the next day, Jesus calls the fig tree to mind and says, "Watch it. When it reblossoms, all these things will happen."

The setting aside of Israel occurred in 70 A.D. The reblossoming took place in 1948 when the nation of Israel was re-established.

Matthew 24 has yet to happen. It is going to be fulfilled soon; Israel has been regathered, the nation has been re-established, and the nations of the world are coming together against the Jewish state. The wrath of God is about to fall. We are on the threshold of the Great Tribulation. And the Great Tribulation has never happened in all of human history.

Thank You GiovannaNicoletta, AD 70 is only in verse 1, you are right. My memory must have been clouded by some preterist post I have read recently.

BTW Did You catch the fact that when I say replacement theology is a lie I dropped the IMHO yesterday? Replacement theology is as insidious as idol worship.

Camping is a victim of replacement theology. IMHO the lie of replacement theology is almost as insidious as idolatry. The key to holistic understanding of Bible prophecy is to understand the role of Israel in it. God keeps his promises to Israel. This is a model to the rest of us that he will keep his promises to us as well.

A majority of the church going world has been victimized. I believed the lie for 35 years. During the past 20 I have been seeking the truth and only recently did I stop saying IMHO replacement theology is a lie and replaced it with: Replacement theology is a lie dropping the IMHO. For those that do not know, Replacement theology is the lie that the Church has replaced Israel in God’s plan.

The church was polluted by Replacement theology early on. Origen and Augustine, early Fathers of the church, were the first to muddy up the scriptures in this way when they arrogantly took on the mantle of Israel for themselves. Martin Luther apparently did not study it and this lead to his anti-Semitism and Hitler. In many ways IMHO it is like a reverse of the circumcision party that led to Acts 15.

This replacement theology lie has lead to the church we have today. Everyone is running around not knowing what is happening in these end times we are in. The truth is The Church, the Bride of Christ, has a role and Israel has a role. Think of men and women, children and parents, husbands and wives, angels and people, dogs and cats, sheep and goats, wheat and tares. All these have roles God invented.

So the solution: Open your Bible, drop your preconceived notions and open your mind, ask God to reveal the truth about all this Israel stuff written in the Bible. The Lord Jesus Christ is central in it all. Gods Grace and Mercy is incredible, He does all the work. Faith and hope and love permeate the entire Bible and the greatest of these is love.
