And this might be why he never runs... not the F-bombs... it sounds like Trump has the quintessential rich politician problem: Vietnam.
According to a new document unearthed by The Smoking Gun: Donald Trump received 4 student deferments, and one medical deferment, which is in contradiction to a previous quote explaining his draft status: I actually got lucky because I had a very high draft number. Ill never forget, that was an amazing period of time in my life.
Technically, that doesn't have to be a lie. Eventually Trump got a high draft number, but it appears that it's definitely not the only way he avoided the war.
Again, that Vietnam service has been an issue for many candidates is known to everyone, and for someone who was born wealthy -- and going to Wharton at the time -- the deferrals look worse.

So tell me, Mr. Weisenthal...how much investigative work have you done to UNEARTH Hussein’s hidden information. You know... grades, college records, term papers, health records, out of country political donations, Illinois senate records....
Did he ever register with Selective Service?
Yep, they want to make is just like the Dutch military.
Progressives are afraid of him and so are conservatives who have already decided to attach themselves to a candidate. It's the eating your own thing on steroids.
I know how you feel. But, I had student deferments and a couple of medical deferments for high blood pressure. Then, when I took my last draft physical, I was wealthy enough to afford whiskey the night before, guess what? My BP was normal. Then guess what? In a few months I was bound for sunny Southeast Asia.
I very distinctly remember the world at that time. I was 1-A for a year but never called, the attitude was if you get called you go, if not you don't. Then the lottery came and I got a high number and the question was moot.
The US was not threatened, had not been attacked and, most importantly, was not fighting to win.
For the time that I was 1-A I was working a big construction job where the crew was a mix of WW2 - Korea vets and guys back from Nam. Not a single one of these guys thought it was a good idea to join to fight a war that we had already decided not to win.
They all knew my status and everyday asked if the notice came. They all hoped it wouldn't.
You don't have to like it or even believe it but that's how it was.
And I agree, the election of Clinton renders the point moot. Kerry (war hero according to himself) lost, as did McCain (war hero).
If we’re going to discuss the draft and Selective Service, let’s see the details on one Barry Soetoro aka Baraq Hussein 0bama.
I know just how you feel... hit the post button once and wham... mulitple postings. Not to worry... it happens to everyone.

I am one conservative who is loath to think of Trump being a viable candidate. I know we can do better.
Nobody should be denied a voice in anything simply because they have no military service. My only anger is for those who protested against the Vietnam war and those cowards who ran away to Canada.......and were subsequently PARDONED BY JIMMY CARTER.....
As a side note, back in March of 2003, I had just returned to Detroit from a ski trip to British Columbia and was in the baggage claim area with a young college age girl from Vancouver, BC. As we were chatting, she said she had been on break and was heading back to college in Ohio......
For some reason, she revealed to me that her parents were U.S. citizens but that her father, after receiving his Vietnam draft notice, had fled to Canada with her mom where they remained to that day....her demeanor suggested to me that she was proud of that fact.
As for myself, I was stunned with disbelief at what I had just heard and couldn't say another word to her.... After I collected my baggage and was transported to my car and headed for the long trip home, all the things that I wanted and should have said to her came flooding into my head, but it was too late.......for the entire drive home I was seething with anger.
I think you responed to the wrong poster. My post never mentioned Rush or Clinton
“I actually think that the Vietnam draft contributed to the practice of graduate student assistants teaching classes in colleges and increase in government funded research by graduate students.”
It’s even worse than that. Huge numbers of draft deferrals led to a glut in lawyers!
A damn'd lie.
Come on. Those helmets would have RUINED his hair.
At the bottom of this form it indicates that Trump went for Armed Forces Physical Exams on 12/15/66 and 9/17/68.
That is really odd that he was reclassified from 2S to 1A on 11/22/66 and sent for a physical on 12/15/66. Then he was reclassified 2S on 12/13/66. Why would he have lost his student deferment? That indicates he was probably out of school for a time because he would not have lost his 2S if he was continuously in school.
And then the 9/17/68 physical appears to has resulted in the 1Y classification.
There are several questions there, but none indicate any unusual effort to avoid the draft unless someone thinks he received favored treatment somewhere along the line.
At some point, the physicals resulted in Disqualification from military service. And one inconsistency is that since he was classified 1Y when the draft lottery took place 12/69, there was already little chance he’d be drafted. The high draft number just made the chances almost non-existent.
Fortunately, the Founders were smarter than making military a prerequisite for elected office. It helps keep the overlap between civilian government and armed services to a minimum. Military careers didn’t do too much for a slew of liberals or democrats that I can name off the top of my head.
I’d also hate to think the multiple seizures I experienced in Basic Training and effectively ending my enlistment would prevent me from running for Congress at some future date. Just so I don’t keep you in suspense, I was later found to have a cerebral AVM. That’s not something that can be faked.
Agreed. I don’t think this is going to be an issue. If he had a high draft number and was not called up then he did not avoid the draft.
