My laptop is no great shakes it's a DELL Latitude D600 bought for $350 from Pine Computers here in South Burlington. I didn't buy it new,of course & they offfered this clean one to me when my Toshiba crashed.
The Dell was slow even tho I faithfully downloaded all the updates for M FF. FINALLY-ver 4 came out & everything is just so peachy keen-speed,reorganizition of tabs & unnecessary tool bars, etc.,but more so speed.
Most recently I did take out Advanced System Care IObit free version but have installed GLARY UTILITES and the MRU BLASTER.
I just wonder if that Iobit was really slowing things down and making me doing un-necessary work especially on "DISK CLEAN-UP"
Iobit doesn't really "clean" your registry errors & some other things & says it does on clean-up but if you buy the product & permanately install I've read reviews where you are constantly hassled by them for upgrades & it will cost you.
I'm holding my breath since i took out Iobit & am using GLARY UTILITES and MRU Blaster. Personally i think Iobit messes things up & doesn't do a good job unless you purchase the software & permanantely install it.
Any comments?
Time for a new laptop.
I paid $250 for my D610 over 2 years ago. Also, the D600 is known for overheating unlike the D610.

ty for your kind advice Dr. Silvana
you’ve given me a great idea- i’ll trade this one back to them w/the Toshiba 17in screen
you’ve given me a great idea- i’ll trade this one back to them w/the Toshiba 17in screen for a newer model what do you recommend?
You need 2GB to be effective. Go over to crucial.com using IE and find out what kind of RAM you need then head over to pricewatch.com and order the 2 1GB sticks of RAM referenced from crucial. Hopefully, your RAM is not too old to cost more than $50 for the pair.
yes you are correct about overheating that’s why i took the battery out
but i’m not using IE as a browser-i’m using Mozilla Firefox ver 4
I got a year old Toshiba i5 and luv it. Get an i7, 16 inch screen oughta be ‘nuff!
:D it’s from a movie entitled “Hear My Song” w/Ned Beatty & his love interest-Miss Dairy Goodness an Irish beauty pageant back in the 50’s. Maureen O’Hara was featured in this film and portrayed as the flashback to “Miss Dairy Goodness”.
have a non-working Toshiba and the drivers crapped out it’s a 17inch screen
I'd be looking for the D820 as someone mention earlier above. I always buy corporate laptops like the Dell Latitude. My wife has a D620. It's been going for 2 years. I think hers costs $350 back then. The Toshiba Tecra series: M9, M10, M11 is what I support at work. Something like this: http://tinyurl.com/3uefmwe
***I’d never use Norton*** imho there are too many problems with that
will do & i’ve taken the notes on your reccs!!
TY mucho
Mostly I would agree. But I have been using "Tune Up Utilities" for about 6 years. I usually buy the upgrade every other year when they offer a good sale.
I have used it on several desk tops and several laptops, not once has it caused any problem after cleaning and/or defragging the registry. It has been very effective getting rid of traces of very stubborn programs that just don't like to go away after un-installation.
It has a cornucopia of tools to do all kinds of things. Very powerful software.

when I call Pine Computers in South Burlington tomorrow I’m going to see what they say on the inexpensive stock memory.
Sincerely,

Thanks
Me either although plain ole Norton’s Anti Virus is ok. This product is different.
