My laptop is no great shakes it's a DELL Latitude D600 bought for $350 from Pine Computers here in South Burlington. I didn't buy it new,of course & they offfered this clean one to me when my Toshiba crashed.
The Dell was slow even tho I faithfully downloaded all the updates for M FF. FINALLY-ver 4 came out & everything is just so peachy keen-speed,reorganizition of tabs & unnecessary tool bars, etc.,but more so speed.
Most recently I did take out Advanced System Care IObit free version but have installed GLARY UTILITES and the MRU BLASTER.
I just wonder if that Iobit was really slowing things down and making me doing un-necessary work especially on "DISK CLEAN-UP"
Iobit doesn't really "clean" your registry errors & some other things & says it does on clean-up but if you buy the product & permanately install I've read reviews where you are constantly hassled by them for upgrades & it will cost you.
I'm holding my breath since i took out Iobit & am using GLARY UTILITES and MRU Blaster. Personally i think Iobit messes things up & doesn't do a good job unless you purchase the software & permanantely install it.
Any comments?
yes they are minimal. I don’t even allow AVG free version to run only when i’m on & that’s about it.
I bought a used D620 Latitude dual processor 2GHZ notebook
for $300 on Ebay , It came back off a 3year lease. If you bought yours for $350 a single processor machine within the last year, then either he needed to extended you credit visa vi’ what a used car lot does, or you dont negotiate effectively within the market place.
Kaspersky Internet Security Suite, buy it at a good price on Amazon. For this, stay away from Ebay.
I’ve got the firewall that comes w/XP and that is the system.
I’d have to go back & find out how much RAM i have but here’s a question for you. Where do i find that out ? in simple directions.
Yes I do complete shutsdowns,too.
Agree on the patches for Windows,Flash & Firefox
Obviously, you are well versed .
Comments like yours are a waste of your time and mine.
well you have given me a new idea
i’ll take my old Toshibe & this one and ask for a better deal.......... but the Toshiba has a 17inch screen
What should I ask for? they’ve got ‘em , believe me but anything Song Vaio is out.
Your comments?
If you are sincerely asking for help, it is necessary to formulate a clear summary of your hardware and software platform, and the specific problem you have encountered.
Otherwise, you're just wasting your time and mine.
Hi,
Thanks man.
John
imho the only abbreviation I have used is FF ver4
all other information concerning the two software programs I have downloaded upon advice from a fellow FReeper are
Glary Utilties and MRU Blaster.
MRU is an acronymn .

Norton’s 360 is suppose to be excellent.
You have to know what your doing, research the model that is being offered. Best bet to buy a notebook is off of Ebay. Quite a few respected sellers that deal predominantly in ‘just off lease’ machines. Besides that you treading in dangerous waters unless you do your homework exceedingly well.
Same with computers and cars, if you dont know them well, you shouldnt’ be alone or receive advice from similarly minded ‘not know’ people. best I can do!
I omitted it earlier but my D620 was $300 a year ago.
Now the D820’s are coming off lease for $300-350 on Ebay
Check out Spywareblaster. I have used it for years.

very good info you have provided- I bought this DELL LatD600 3 years w/WIN XP pro
For malware removal try Super Antispyware

This free software really removes spyware and malware
Run DMC asymetrically in kernel mode with DLM on and protected RTLs. BPI PE might help, though I wouldn’t go as far as BPI GCr or engage FMS.
i did click on and i have 512 MB of RAM
That puppy can go as high as 2GB (I believe 2 x 1GB). It takes inexpensive stock memory. $30 should get you another GB, that should be sufficient for XP.
