Why did Newsweek remove Barack Obama photos?
Why would someone photoshop a young Barack Obama into a photo of his grandparents sitting on a bench in Central Park? A photo that appeared in New Yorker editor David Remnick’s Obama bio, ‘The Bridge’.

I think this needs more explaining.
There is evidence, from anatomic analysis and the appearance of the left hand, that obama was photoshopped INTO the photo of the grandparents.
The second photoshopped image of the grandparents without obama in it is to show how more “realistic”, “natural” (?) it is if obama WAS NOT in the photo.
This is to illustrate how much more abnormal the first image is, and how it would be more natural if the original image did not have obama in it.
When the topic first came up years ago, I think some people tried to identify where the photo was originally taken from, from identifying the benches, but were unable to.
I just assumed that the photo without Obama was hastily Photoshopped to show what the original looked like...not to try and pass as the original photo.

Ok, these are both Photoshopped.
It is photoshopped. I do this stuff all the time.
One area you can tell is on gramps shoulder next to 0’s shoulder is not as dark in the before pic. Also the area where the wall shows through should be showing gramps arm and not the wall. The area just to the right of gramps knee has a blue tinge which is gone in the shopped pic.
Probably other areas but those sure jumped.
In the top photo, what is that odd area between the bottom of Obama’s left leg, and the bottom of her right leg? Doesn’t look like the rest of the background at the base of the wall.
Wow the more I look at this, the more I think you’re right. Where’s the rest of Grandad Engels’s left arm? And surely that isn’t supposed to be a hand on O’s left shoulder? I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be background blob or a human hand.
I have to say, if they faked the first one (OK job, but not great) and then put out an OBVIOUS fake as the “original” to defuse criticism of the fake, then they are more devious than even I had thought.

That is a concrete bench leg that is not there in the other photo.
Agreed. Why are granny and granpa offset in the photo....why not centered. The bench to the left of nana has obviously been “pulled” to fill in the gap where Barry was deleted. The bench in the undoctored photo is very crisp looking and detailed whereas in the other photo the bench appears very distorted

The “knee” is completely different in the two photos - shading, color weight, and indentation on the man’s leg. Likewise, there is no “semicircular marking” on the tree, other than a barely discernable jog in the tree trunk which is roughly 1/10th the size of Obama’s head.
For Grampa’s hand to be on Obama’s shoulder, his forearm would have to be well over twice as long as his upper arm to place his hand in the position in the photo.
Look at the shading - both grandparents have sunlight/shadow on their shoulders, torso front, and knees, indicating a source of illumination (the sun) was almost directly overhead. Obama shows no such illumination (even though his knees are in the same position), save for a slight reflection on his right shoulder and forearm... indicating that the source of the illumination in his photoshopped image was low and to his right.
Neither photo is even good photoshop work. I did better work in my first week of using photoshop. 4 or 5 years later some stuff just sticks right out at me.
It also looks like Grandpa has a peach in his shorts... I can’t believe people didn’t notice this sooner. The hand on Obama’s shoulder doesn’t appear to even be properly proportioned.
