Don’t take it too hard, NNB; I went 0 for 7 on girls next door, 0 for 8 if you include two doors down, and 0 for 10 if you go to the end of the street.

Had to import one from Oregon, but she’s Florida-born and California raised.

Now, as to the Ford truck...I SURELY do miss it.

Man! That was a tight market for girls next door. Good thing you were not adverse to an import ;-)

Two of my cousins went to Penn State. My brother and his wife, the English gal, live in Pennsylvania.

This is like Six Degrees of Pennsylvania or something.

Frank didn’t like them toasted OR raw?

Poor Frank.

No, not at all. And he’d been asking for marshmallows, for some reason, when we didn’t have any, but as soon as he chewed one bite, he handed the rest to Sally and said, “Don’t like it!”

He liked the chocolate and crackers, though, and being outside with the Cubs. He’s always excited when James, Pat and I get on our uniforms. “Tiger Cub! Tiger Cub!” I had to put him in the stroller to keep him out of the fire while I was helping the other kids.

Cheese steaks I can miss, but pretzels ... when we visited my grandmother in Philadelphia, you’d get off the interstate and there would be hot pretzel vendors at the offramp. We always bought pretzels to eat for the rest of the trip to Nana’s house.

It’s all in the details: three were too young, two were two old, one of ‘em, her mother was like “Ricky’s Mom” from the movie “Better Off Dead” (FLEE!), one was inhospitable, and of the other three — by the time we were old enough to think of being interested, we’d seen enough of each others’ idiosyncrasies that we all sorta went “nah.”

And so it goes, and so it goes...

Understandable. I had no gals on either side of me growing up.

Good memories ...

I had some rough years with OldTax-lady, and she had an even harder time with Nan and Pop, who was an alcoholic and died in 1968, but we put in the time and got the best we could out of it. I learned to play the piano and sing German hymns in Nana’s basement.

When Anoreth graduated from CG Basic in 2009, the family got together in Philly to celebrate. I missed it because Frank was only a couple of months old, but my brother and uncle and cousins were there, and DP and Bill drove up. Nice time.

Is that what they're calling it now?

She was in Panama over Easter weekend, and hasn’t been in touch since Easter Sunday. I assume we’ll hear from her eventually at some South American port. Maybe she’ll go ‘round Cape Horn!

She says she’ll go to Gunnery school in Virginia in October, and after that she can apply for a post in the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico. She doesn’t like Seattle, although the rest of the Pacific Basin is okay when they’re on a long-haul cruise.
