I guess many people on FR liked Pia.
I didn’t. She can sing, but she had no depth. No soul.
Nothing new.
Plus her usual moves on stage ( or lack of) bothered me.
Stand on stage, bend knees, lean over, belt out note. Walk a little, stand on stage, bend knees, lean over, belt out note.
Over and over and over......
Couldn’t she just move a little. It drove me bananas that she could sing, yet she had no rhythm at all in her.
To add to my post above.....
The musicians on stage with Pia had more dance moves.
For instance the female trumpet player and the rest of the brass moved around more naturally than Pia. And they didn’t move their feet.
And before anyone tells me the usual “it’s a singing competition, not a dance competition”, save it.
I don’t want her to dance around like she’s in Flash Dance or something. Just groove a little like she has some speck of rhythm.
No need to “defend” Taylor Hicks is necessary. I liked Taylor and was happy for him when he won.
When I said that he hasn’t done much I guess I’m coming at it from a mainstream point of view. I am a Top 40, hip hop music fan. I like the current music. You won’t hear his music there so therefor, for me “nothing”.
That’s all I was saying
Three others to consider..Laura Brannigan ( died way to young) and Bonnie Tyler..I saw them both many times live...
and the great Dusty Springfield...
Agree. It is as if Pia never outgrew the little 3 year old with a fake mike imitating Celine and Tina to please her parents. She is great at mimicry, but where is the real Pia?
I don’t think she has found herself yet. Imitators and impersonators are a dime a dozen.
There's lots of interest and comment on country music on this AI thread. CMT's new series, the Next Country Star, starts tonite...(9-11 PM, EST. .repeated again at 11PM..) so you may want to set your DVRs... )
I'll tape and watch it tomorrow mornign..if anyone starts a thread, please add me to the list..
” I dont want her to dance around like shes in Flash Dance or something. Just groove a little like she has some speck of rhythm.”
Good observation. I mentioned the same thing to my wife when Jennifer, avoided the direct comment, and finally Randy made some comment to that effect.
She had the voice, but not the pizazz that appears to be part of this years voting as I wouldn’t put Lee DeWayze, or Chris Allen in the mover/shaker category...
Is Fox 'n Friends Brian Kilmead a Freeper/lurker?
Had the show on in background this morning..They're discussing the shocking elimination of Pia last night..when Brian says "They got rid of Pia, and kept 'Grizzley Adams.' " Hmmml..could it be??
I'm gonna miss Pia..
jonny...you gotta post better picks of Haley...we guys need a reason to focus..
I agree with you. Pia did not move me, her high voltage belting didn’t electrify me at all, struck me as cold.
America is making the right choices on Idol this season... unlike the general election.
Once again, America rejects excellence and embraces hokum with all four limbs
I hope you stick around..come back next week...you obviously know music, and your comments are incisive..just humbly suggest that you make them, and take them..with a smile...I mean..AI is sort of "American Bandstand meets Jerry Springer"...so any thread about it is gonna be, well..strange/weird...look, many of us were here in Season One, and well still MISS and LONG FOR Brian Dunkleman..me..I actually bought Carmen Rasmussen's CD, and still have Haley Scarnato's clips on my YouTube Fave list..
1,000 posts or so on this thread...9,000 to go..and if you win AGAIN, people may think that this is like ...(gasp) Wisconsin!!!
I nominate Roger Daltry.
Steven looks out of focus, depressed, bored, not there.
There are many freepers/lurkers who make a living in the arts.
You might be surprised how many are here.
While perspectives on this thread run the gamut from professional to amateur, it’s all (mostly) in good fun.
Sour notes impact more than the AI stage.
Why do you sing? The great ones seem to sing for the audience.
Carrie Underwood didn’t have the greatest stage presence when she won, but
she loved her audience and they felt it.
The great ones have an irresistible generosity of spirit.
The truly great ones serve the music. If the audience gets it, good for them. If not, it is the audience's loss.
The great ones wouldn't stand a chance with the American Idol audience. The American Idol audience thinks Fergy, Rhianna and Pink are great singers. The American Idol audience likes Lee DeWyze better than Siobhan Magnus and Crystal Bowersox. The American Idol audience hates opera.
Don't try to tell the American Idol audience about good singing. They're soccer moms and tween girls. They already know it all.
Do you sing opera?
No.
” The American Idol audience likes Lee DeWyze better than Siobhan Magnus “
We really liked her, and were sorry to see her go.
What was your take on her?
If you get Netflix, you might enjoy this concert.
I love Sondheim’s very last comment:
[paraphrased]
“First you’re young, then you’re middle aged, then you’re wonderful.”

I'm telling you, American Idol has a huge female problem with the advent of Steven Tyler's presence.
Women absolutely adore this guy and he's skewed the show's demographics even further in their direction...female contestants (especially the great ones, like Pia) have almost no shot at winning this thing. As a whole, ordinary-looking, plain, untalented women are resentful and jealous of beautiful, glamorous and talented women. They always have been and they always will be.
The female tweens are voting for their future boyfriends.
Without these two demographics, a contestant cannot win. Guys like Stefano and Paul outlast the best singer in the history of the show.
Let's hear it for the 12-year-old female tastemakers and their mothers!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
