We just had Popeyes for dinner. There was a lively discussion regarding it compared to KFC. I'd like your thoughts. I say you can't beat the red beans and rice though.
This thread got me to thinking.
The best fried chicken I have ever eaten was at a chain in SE Alabama called “Rons”.
I once talked to the owner and he said the flavor came from it being marinated overnight. I think they only lasted a couple of years. I am not sure what the problem was but the chicken was great.
KFC but I can’t eat either anymore or my gall bladder will explode.
Popeye’s is the Schiznit!
I wonder how long that has been around...I just finished reading Samuel Eliot Morison's book "The Great Explorers" and in it he talks about someone's crew (maybe Magellan's) who ate some kind of new animal and declared "It tasted like chicken"
Granted, it probably DID taste like chicken, but I will bet as far back as those guys, one sailor might say to another "Yea, I have heard the roasted flesh of that unknown beast is as that of chicken..."
LOL!
KFC original can’t be beat..Popeye’s chicken has gotten a lot smaller at least down here in Ga. Church’s has the best sides.
KFC sides have really went downhill.
The last I heard, Ms. Willie Mae is something like 100 years old and still cooking in the kitchen.
Like the Colonel’s Original.
Piggly Wiggly in Charleston , S.C. is great but the best is in Tucson, Arizona...
Lucky Wishbone and the best cole slaw ever!
Popeye, hands down
Popeyes...without a doubt...love that Cajun Sparkle!
For sure! Popeyes get’s you on the side dish, but the chicken?
Knotts
never tried it
If they cook with lard you know you’re in the right place.
I prefer Popeyes over KFC when traveling (which is about the only time I eat fried chicken)
I agree with some posters, I have had some EVIL fried chicken from KFC, but it could be the same with Popeyes if you visit enough of them.
Popeye’s for sure
Popeye chicken strips are fantastic, but nothing beats KFCs potato wedges.
The best fried chicken on the planet is this little shack on Beach Road in Jacksonville, FL that has been serving up Southern Fried Heaven since the Great Depression.
