The Make-a-Wish Foundation had to break some bad news to a 6-year-old cancer patient this week ... when Food Network star Ina Garten informed them she was too busy to cook a meal with the boy ... TMZ has learned.
A family member involved with the Make-A-Wish foundation tells us ... a little boy named Enzo was approached by the organization after he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia three years ago.
Enzo told Make-A-Wish ... he really wanted to cook with the "Barefoot Contessa" host because he would often watch the show with his mother while resting in bed.
M.A.W. approached Garten with the wish last year ... but at the time, she was unable to meet with Enzo due to a book tour. The organization urged Enzo to pick another wish, but he told them he wanted to wait until she becomes available.
We're told the organization went back to Ina this year ... but her team responded with a "definite no" ... once again, citing scheduling conflicts.

That alone is enough for me.
To Liberals, compassion is the government's job.
She did a whole show for the Save the Hamptons Foundation - to preserver overpriced real estate for the wealthy. sold the meals for $100K a plate. She can cook with a kid. It won’t kill her. If she didn’t do charities, I might understand. But, promoting her own non-sympathetic ghey charities and turning down a kid is bad PR. Very bad.
I believe she’ll live to the fruits she has sown.
>>Shes a pig.<<
From another news source:
According to TMZ, Food Network host Ina Garten turned down meeting the same six-year-old Make-a-Wish kid twice, citing scheduling conflicts (he’s diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). The Make-A-Wish foundation “noted that Ina is a ‘good friend’ of the foundation,” however. The kid’s going with his second choice: swimming with dolphins.
I worked in a university children’s hospital. This story made me cry. I also just realized my youngest daughter shares the same name as a relative that died of cancer at age 4 that I spent much time praying for. For the people that give Ina a pass, I say go visit a children’s hospital then see if you feel the same way. She was asked twice over a 2 year period and couldn’t find time. I hardly consider that a shake down. What kind of evil person essentially flips off a dying child and can’t spend a few minutes with them? Ina, news flash: there’s plenty of fire to cook on in hell. You’ll be right at home.
In fact, MacMillan tells us he's ready to fly Enzo and his entire family out to Arizona STAT -- put them up in a fancy resort and treat them all to a VIP dinner at his 5-star restaurant.
MacMillan says he also wants to bring Enzo into the kitchen so they can prepare the meal together.
As for Symon -- the chef tells us he'll be in Enzo's home state of Oregon in the very near future and would be more than happy to swing by Enzo's house to "cook a dish" with him too.
She's a childless broad, who does fundraisers for Planned Parenthood and does private cooking parties all the time with a bunch of lefties where she lives in the Hamptons.
In other words she's someone that you or I probably couldn't spend 5 minutes with without wanting to wrap our hands around her throat. I say "bash away".
The vast, vast majority of "celebrities" are our ideological enemies. You should take any opportunity you can to tear down your enemies.
Karma for desert.
Karma for desert.
Of course they should. That's how you get what you want. You squeeze some nuts.
Celebrities make they're living off their image. It's not like any of her fans will ever taste this woman's food. She makes her money of off the personality they project onto her.
Let her serve as a warning to other celebrities.
No kidding. And conservatives wonder why we have lost almost every battle for 100 years. Most don't have the kill instinct like the left does.
We know that almost all trial lawyer sharks are leftists. It's their authoritarian personalities that drew them to the left, not their politics. People have the cause and effect backwards there.
Why didnt she just invite the young boy to her swanky Hampton $100,000/plate charity event then? To whom much is given, much is expected. Apparently she hasnt learned this.
She couldnt find time? She couldnt have him join her on one of her shows? She couldnt even find the time to do a video for him?
Shes just a silly chef. Shes not a brain surgeon, heart surgeon or president of the US. Shes just a chef, and she couldnt carve any time away from food to spend time with a sick child?
Really? I dont care if youve raised 20 mil for charities. The measure of one’s character is not what we do when people are watching, but what we do when no one is looking.
Kudos to Michael Symon and Beau MacMillan for stepping up and offering. Im sure theyre both much busier than she is, and theyre willing to find the time.
If Bill Gates can find time for a MAW child, Im more than certain this woman could have.
No one demanded she be a “celeb” chef. She chose it. With that comes a heightened level of expectations. If you’re not prepared to meet those expectations, then be prepared to suffer the consequences.
Someone who plays with food for a living that can’t find time for a sick boy’s request is someone who has an overinflated sense of their own self importance.
The FN should cut the “Contessa” loose.
With that being said, I agree with you. The family or MAW foundation had no business attempting to blackmail the celebrity chef......
You ask someone for a favor and if they grant it, fine. If not, you ask someone else.......I'm sure she's not the first individual unable to accomodate the MAW foundation.
Scaling it down from whale to dolphins. ;) Seriously, awaiting the full story here and can understand that not every celebrity can accomodate every such charity wish (especially those in high demand such as certain sports stars). Yet have a hard time buying that this chef is in that kind of demand and can't fulfill such a request. At the least, she should have found it in herself to send him a thank you/inspirational note/vid message and some brownies, donate a few bucks toward leukemia causes (perhaps someone should've told her it was for a Dem campaign instead), etc.
That said, whoever brought this to the press (parents, MAW foundation, other), shouldn't have.
Megyn Kelly just said they are having the story on shortly, LOL.
Sounds like Ina got leaned on by her Food Network bosses or publishing house!
But I do think it was wrong of the mom to blog about it.
From the article it seemed the mom was surprised how much play the story received.
Secondly, I have it on very good authority (from medical personnel who work at Loma Linda University in California) that "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" chef Guy Fieri received a similar request from a child and stayed in his room for hours. He requested no publicity.
Enough said, as far as I am concerned.
