WASHINGTON -- Anxious to reduce its front-line air combat role in Libya, the Obama administration pressed Thursday for allies who first pushed for the campaign to come up with a workable alternative.
U.S. officials said the leadership handoff would come within a few days - with President Barack Obama facing growing congressional misgivings - and fellow NATO countries held crisis talks about the military operation.

You can see where this is going. I hope the rebels don’t buy green bananas.
Yeah, they’ll get right on it....
Gutless wonder...
That about says it. I read elsewhere here, these "allies" pressured Hillary to get the US on board and she pressured Obama. Naturally, now that he's getting beat up on the situation, he wants out. Sure, it was a dumb move by him in the first place, but just think what this does to his image abroad; even though they pressured him into it. He can't win for loosing. That's OK by me, although I'd prefer we never went this route in the first place.
Call in the Ghurkas.
Let me see how (!)bama will try to posture this:
Ah, I put this mission into the hands of Gates and Clinton as I was trying to improve our economic situation here in the US as I promised in my State of the Union. They were not up to the task so I have had to return early from my foreign endeavors and take charge of this personally. I have directed our NATO representative to let NATO take the lead as some NATO members were pushing for a military solution to the Lybia problem.
That is all I have to say on this matter except to reiterate my decision to not put our troops on the ground in Lybia. I will take one question:
President (!)bama, there are reports there is a Marine expeditionary force on its way into the Med, is that true and if so, how does it meld with your statement.
(!)bama, er, you were not the one who I was calling upon, next question.
Mr. President, is it true you were drinking a domestic wine during your toasts. Thank you for that question. Well, it was domestic but each of those wines was vinted in the host country, except for El Salvadore, because as we know they send all their vinyard help to California. This is why we need to get to the bottom of our argument on immigration policy. I cannot believe we are in the second year of my presidency for life, er, my first term of office and we have not yet settled our immigration policy. BTW, both foreign wines were full bodied, they exhibited an excellent boquet and although not from the US, I would recommend them hightly. Why, one of the wine magazines is going to do a piece about my wine preferences and the food channel will be at the next white house party, this evening probably, where I will be rating various vintages from various regions in California. Well, got to go now, tee time.
Amen!

...he’s changing our image in the world alright.
The French think we’re wimps and the Germans think we’re arrogant....
That's quite an accomplishment.
